Historical Traveler Reviews of Wilshire Grand Hotel Los Angeles
Loved the Wilshire
from NancyG13
We stayed at the Wilshire from July 5th until July 11th 2004. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had to get directions to a number of tourist attractions and they were given clearly and usually gave two options of how to get there including how long it would take. Our room was large and very clean. We loved the 24 hour access to the pool. The only thing we didn't like was how much it was to park. Convenient for the valet, but we're not used to that coming from Canada. We would definitely stay there again if we went back to L.A. I hope everyone's stay is as nice as ours was.
It was less than expected

This hotel is popular for business travelers to stay during the week.
With all the business travelers, I assumed that the quality of the hotel would have been better than what I experienced. The staff were friendly. They first gave us a room with double beds when I requested for a king bed. They were happy to give us another room but they ran out of king beds so we ended up with a queen bed. The amenities were standard. The bathroom was small. I would not consider this a 4-star hotel. More like a 3-star. It was just average and I was disappointed.
Deluxe Room Review
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Wilshire Grand on Dec 2003 for Christmas (no decorations in the lobby).
Stayed in a Deluxe Room with 2 bathrooms (small sink), 2 double beds (lumpy). The doubles beds were not comfy at all. The bathrooms need renovations since it's old style.
Lobby is a bit small and unimpressive. Come on, put a tree at least, it's Christmas!
But the best part, FREE WIRELESS INTERNET...
Still, Hotel needs some soul and new beds.

We had a very nice stay at the Wilshire in LA. THe only thing I was unhappy with was that according to the website, the pool was on the roof. No it was not. And because it was surrounded by tall buildings and trees, there was not alot of sun time. I would definetly reccomend staying on the "executive levels" . THey are on the top three floors. Breakfast (muffins, toast, bagels, cereal, yogurt, juices and coffee) was provided for you as was a happy hour from 5 to 7 in the evening that included two hot appetizers. fruit, cheese and crackers and soft drinks, water and coffee.

Well....I will advise anyone not to stay at this hotel. Let me share the BAD experiences that my wife and I had on a recent weekend getaway to Los Angeles. Looking for a good deal, I found the hotel's site on the internet. The hotel looks beautiful from there. I reserved a room from the site. The site had a "special" called the "basic Weekend." The site stated a one night accomodation for 2 and overnite parking was included. Knowing how expensive parking can be in Los Angeles, I decided that it looked like a pretty good deal for about $84.00. My wife and I showed up at the hotel at around 9 pm. Upon check-in, I asked the clerk if she had included my parking, she said no, that I had to pay $24.00 for overnite parking. I explained what the website said. She told me that there was no such thing. I asked to speak with the manager. I believe an assistant manager came out. He looked upset and hurried. I explained my situation. He was obviously no help. He was rude, and told me that there was no such package at his hotel and asked to the the print out. I explained that I did not have it and his attitude was like too bad. He proceeded to explain that the clerk had "upgraded" us to a better room that was worth $187.00 a night, so he didn't undestand why I was complaining to him. Since they were all out of the normal rooms, they did what all hotels do, they give you whatever they have, this happened to be a slightly larger room. Well, obviously I wasn't getting anyware with the manager, so I decided to just let it go at that point. We went up to our "deluxe" room. The room was average, I would say. It was obviously old, and not very well maintained, definately NOT worth $187.00 a night. I opened the minibar and saw the preice of a small bottle of water. They wanted over $3.00 for it! I decided to go down to my car and get a bottle of water we had in there. When I got to the valet, my keys were nowhere to be found! I waited over 10 minutes while I was ignored by the staff. I had to go into the valet shack myself and look for my keys wich I finally found. The next morning at checkout, I spoke to another of the clerks. I got my bill and the parking was not there. I asked about it and she said that I had to pay for it at the valet shack. I explained my situation again. She was nice and seemed very concerned. At the end she said she was sorry but that I still had to pay for the parking to get my car. Well...again I did not feel like arguing. But I found it odd that they just did not include all of the charges on the same bill. When I paid for the parking, the lady that was there told me it was $14.00. I gave her my credit card. WhenI signed the receipt, it said $24.00. I asked her about it. Her responde was..."huh!, I said $24.00!" Well.... to me the $24.00 is not the big deal. I don't appreciate being lied to and being treated like ....well u know what! When I got back to work, I decided that it was not right so I called the hotel to complain. The person on the other end seemed to be concerned. She called me back and said that they would investigate the incident and that they were sorry. she also said that the package did exist and that I should not have been charged for the parking. She told me that I would get a refund for the parking. Almost a week later, I am still waiting for the refund to my account. And for my trouble and inconvenience, she told me that next time I was in Los Angeles, I should call her and arrange for a "free breakfast" at the Wilshire. Well...I hope I did not bore you to death. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN! Don't say I didn't warn you! Customer service is non-existant here, I don't think they have ever heard of it! OOO and one more thing, the hotel is right in downtown, it is dirt dingy outside with tons of homeless and drug dealers.....very scary!
My Wilshire Grand Hotel and Centre Experience
from lccalifornia
We stayed at the Wilshire Grand Hotel and Centre from August 3, through
August 7, 2003.
The Wilshire Grand Hotel and Centre was headquarters of our convention.
This is a first class hotel. I saw at least two different airline
personnel staying at the hotel while we were there.
The Front Office and other staff were very helpful. The rooms were very spacious and well appointed and kept very clean.
It is located close to various types of eating facilities from
McDonalds to five star eating places. It is just down the streets to
Macy's, the Post Office, the Los Angeles public library(I went to check
my e-mail) other hotels. If you walk down about eight blocks, you will
run into the Jewerly District, Fashion District. Prices are very
reasonable. I brought a shower curtain set for $8.50. After I got home,
I saw the same set for $24.99.
It was a very pleasant experience. I would stay there again.
They cancelled our booking
from A TripAdvisor Member
I was part of a large group who had a prepaid booking through Expedia for this hotel. My flight was delayed through inclement weather and I was unable to reach LA on the intended night. I called and notified the hotel of this fact and was clear that I would arrive the following day. I was assured that as I had a prepaid booking the room would be safe. I arrived (with a colleague who was also booked at the hotel and was also delayed) to find that the hotel had cancelled both entire five night bookings. It was a very busy time for the hotel (a convention was in progress) and they had obviously resold the rooms. In spite of several "managers" being called, nobody would take responsibility for this. The hotel blamed Expedia.

I was at the Wilshire Grand in June 2002, and was very happy with the accomodations. My room was large, with a very comfortable bed. The pool is nice, the exercise room is excellent. Staff is very accomodating and attentive.
