Some Poles sunbathe as it will not be long before the weather is too cold to sit outside in your swimsuit.

After walking off the pier, we go for a walk on the beach. The beach extends for miles in either direction. I would imagine it might be possible to walk to Gdansk down the beach and Gdynia up the beach. People stop and ...

Deliciously Decadent Drink

I am not a hot chocolate drinker. Maybe one or two Swiss Miss packets in a 2 or 3 year period is about enough for me and then I need enough marshmallows to totally take over the chocolate. So a couple of years ago (already!), traveling in Croatia, one of the other tourists (Thank you Heather!), got a cup of hot chocolate at a roadside restaurant. I was intrigued to see that ...

Hubby found an amber elephant which was a bit pricier than he desired but he hardly ever finds anything for a souvenir so it is going home with us.

Wandering and wandering back around the town, through the market to pick up some food for the train trip on Saturday and back to Sopot and the hotel. Tomorrow it will definitely be ocean viewing and pier walking.

So all this interests me and I hope I can hopefully make the importance of Gdansk halfway interesting to everyone back home.

This small Road to Freedom museum tells the story of the downfall of Communism in Poland and Eastern Europe which started right here in Gdansk at the shipyards not even a quarter mile from where I am writing this. We've made it to Poland!

... cold but very do-able - we'll have to improvise and jazz the challenges up a bit - one team has to arm wrestle a boarder patrol guard so they're going to take their chances on the Russian boarder! If you've got any ideas for other challenges let us know and we'll get onto it! That's about it for now - hopefully we should be able to give another update in Lithuania! http://www.justgiving.com/dumball09_the dukes

... voices, and sounds. We were treated to
a short musical performance and it was very impressive. They played "Ave Maria" and something from Phantom of the Opera, and another one I didn't recognize. Quite beautiful. I visited the little store they had there and bought a hand-made angel that made me think of my mom and all her collection of angels. Then we traveled to the "Green Gate", which isn't even green. Almost to Hel and Back

... on technology and politics. Like I said, a very interesting old couple and before we knew it we were in Gdansk. We grabbed a cab to our hotel, because it was not on our map and the directions from the website were "from the train station, take a cab". It was nice to be dropped right at our door, but after that we figured out it would have been quite easy to take a local train and walk (and much cheaper). Oh well. We had ...

back to Gdansk

Having failed dismally to contact the Rospuda protesters, I decided to return to Gdansk, and drove back along the side roads the following morning. The roads are frequently straight, narrow and tree-lined so one has to be careful about any larger vehicles approaching.... There are some stunning lakes along the way. Evidently Poland ...

Raining again...

Just before we left Oki Doki in Warsaw, we decided to pick up breakfast for the local corner shop as the hostel cafe wasn't open yet. Its a point and sign affair as we don't speak polish, they don't speak English and all the food is behind the counter, Anyway we came away with brunch for 4 costing just about 5 quid, cant go wrong. Needed to head across town to the main train station and thought, lets just walk, its only 10 minutes. Just as we were passing through the underpass over the ...
