Sadly the Royal Palace was closed so we visited the Rosenberg Palace instead. This was apparently a centre for Distressed Noblewomen (read "poor spinsters") that was established by the Austrian Empress Marie Therese when Prague was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After walking around the Monastery of Broumov for a while we had a cup of coffee in the local café and then continued our trip. A few meters later we stopped in front of a very old-looking church which turned out to be the wooden cemetery church of the Virgin Mary.

The wooden church ...

... university friend Irena and her family. Later that afternoon we took a cable car up the Black Mountain (a winter ski resort) and walked back down the windy road – that was a long walk which mainly Kibble and Irena’s three boys enjoyed. At about 8 pm we had a really hard rain with thunder which brought much needed water to the ground but also worries about possible ...
