Never have I ever

... and in boxes. I can't imagine having to be a filing clerk! Also there was a sign at the entrance that you have to leave your fire arms at the front with the armed guards. Firearms were not allowed inside. In the court room there was a sign that said no littering. Also on the wall was a court prayer. This was not my first time to see or hear a prayer in a government building however I don't think I will ever really get over it.

A night I don't even believe

... I really do have the site of my dreams!.
Well this weekend we have a college from Manila here for an immersion project. Here in Olongapo City there is a very large night life with GRO's (guest relations officers) so in order for about 20 college students to pass they have a street immersion project. It began on Friday with gender sensitivity training and a discussion of the laws that support women. It was a pretty normal Friday until we went bar ...

Tree Top Adventure

... faced the Superman Ride. First you go feet first then head then the other way. It was like a flying fox but you were attached onto the wire. It was a like being an acrobat. First I was scared so we screamed. But it was fun afterwards.

Then we went on the Treeking Adventure. A guide told us that a jungle was a pharmacy and a market. He told us to be careful for snakes, wild boars and poisonous ivy.

Childhood revisited

... me. I learned to enjoy many different meals at their table. I was able to eat dried fish a speciality of the province I was living in. I also ate delicious field frog which I was able to see while they were all alive and after they were cleaned. I had my first fried pig leg. I also found out that breakfast is not like in the states where we have fruit and pancakes. I have eaten a whole plate of pinoy spaggetti complete with pineapple and hotdogs! The food here ...

... that I could've found it with 10 minutes more effort, but who knows. Without being able to start from where I was picked up by the first policeman (real or not), it was not an easy chore. It is a real shame that this happened once I was in touch with the police because I found a policeman literally within 100 meters and five minutes of the event occurring yet nothing was going to be done. I was left with the feeling that the only real thing that ...

Blessings and miracles...and Bohemian Rhapsody

... including the tastes as possible even if I think that I might not like it. I'm not going to go out of my way on certain things though. Some of the seafood I ate on Monday came with a side dip of fish sauce...it tasted like liquid fish with garlic and peppers. Bitter, but not bad. In some of the provinces, they eat bugs. Last night when I was walking around street vendors sold duck egg embryos...considered a delicacy here ...

Going up the country

... else. I said Filipino food, so this was the place. It was a great place with scenic views of the volcano and lake. We ate some typical regional dishes family style at the table: fried sardines (which somehow evolved into freshwater fish from the lake below)-you eat the whole fish including the head and tail...and another large fish stuffed with vegetables and meat and was broiled until the skin was crispy. We also had ...

... would show up offering food to the family to serve to the other guests as well. Though it was a solemn occassion, it was also a time for reunions, as family, friends, and acquiantances we haven't seen in awhile would also drop by to offer their condolences. We would take shifts for the vigils - the adults would host during the day while the cousins would take the night shifts. To pass the time, we would play mah-jong, poker, pusoy and pusoy dos (Russian poker), and of course, eat.

Olongapo

... houses. It's like one very long village with no side streets that winds the whole way up the coast. Olongapo wasn't my destination, but instead, according to my guidebook there was a nice beach at Barrio Barretto. I found my way there by jeepney, and got my accommodation sorted at Bart's Resort Hotel. Quite a nice place to stay, as the rooms have a big shower, cable TV, a huge bed and the beach is right on the door ...
