... market, but we only had one night there, barely enough time to enjoy the atmosphere. Compared to other markets and such, we found shopping was better in Innsbruck compared to Munich. Swarovski crystal originated here and so that was also a big shopping draw. Their most recent orb for Christmas is exquisite!
While in Munich, I took a side trip without Jon to Salzburg, Austria. I've always wanted to visit Salzburg ever since I saw the "Sound of Music". Our ...

... since September and won't reopen until May so the tour groups had to get there crystal fix at the store in Innsbruck. It is really quite a large store with some magnificent pieces.

Innsbruck looks so different with the market. I completely missed the Golden Roof the first day we were walking around. It changes the context of the square so much.

We drove from Lindau to Innsbruck. It is about a 2 hour drive without stops on mostly 4 lane road and good highways. We already had out Austrian Road sticker. We got that when we went to Lichtenstein.

Driving through the Alps is not like driving through the mountains in western Canada. The Germans and Austrians don't believe in going around a mountain if you can go through it. We figure 1/4 of our trip was in tunnels!

... it was a treat to see this little town without huge crowds of tourists since this is a top destination in the summer and winter time (just not in the rainy late fall!). In fact in doing a little reading about Hallstatt the night before I came across an article where they uncovered that a town in China had actually been built as an exact replica of Hallstatt to be used as a vacation destination for the well to do. How funny that they would go to such trouble to rebuild a ...

... minute stop here and we were off again, towards Innsbruck. This drive was through a lot of tunnels through mountains , one of them was 11kms long, during this time Bern took the time to explain all our optional extras. Our lunch stop was at an enormous service centre. There were loads of trucks parked there because in Europe, truckies are not allowed to be on the road between 10:00pm Saturday night and 10:00pm Sunday night. So they ...
