Red Canyon on the Colorado National Monument just east of Independence overlook. Dodging the Cryptobiotic soil (grows a square inch every 100 years and basically holds the entire ecosystem together), we raced the sun to the precipice. If it had not been for our dear friend, Lisa Bradley, we might have overlooked this little hidden gem. Ouray is or was a box canyon before they constructed Rte 550 over the mountain. The north end of the canyon coming from Ridgway was the only way in and out without going over a mountain. And the falls are at the south end. Among the photos ...
