Arrived at Linz today which is the third largest city in Austria. Population 200,000, and is home Austria's largest steel company. From here we travel in the historic Majestic Emperor train to Salsberg. The train is very ornate and gives you an idea of what it was like to travel in style so many years ago. We had a coach trip around the city and then a walking tour followed by 2 hours free time. We had ...

... lounge and watched as the ship sailed into Passau. It is a place where 3 rivers meet, the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz. Sounds like a recipe for disaster in the wet season. As we were late arriving due to the delay, and the scheduled time to for departure has had to be brought forward by 2 hrs, we only had 40 mins to have a quick look around. Paul and I went on the abbreviated walking tour. The town was lovely and we would ...

0 km, (1045km total) 12-17deg, cloudy with the odd bit of drizzle, glimpses of the sun. The last time Greg was here was 2009 on the way from Amsterdam to Vienna with his cycling buddy Graham W. It's much busier now with a lot more people and traffic, both on the river and the roads. Lucky for us we have bike paths, but today we are on foot. Mick's phone started having issues yesterday so it was off to the phone ...

Love it here in Passau. Our last stop in Germany. Our guide who was French told us that Hitler fell in the river here as a young child and someone saved him. Pity. The old town is beautiful. They have a problem with flooding as they are on a peninsula with 3 rivers. The Danube, the Inn and the Iltz. A lot of the buildings have had to have all the plaster removed and replaced to second floor ...

... the earth ascended to the heavens? Magical! Joe Ahhhhh.. First day of riding is complete. We are now sitting atop an alfresco dining area above Schlogen bend. It was a gloriously warm day as we began our ride at 12pm from Passau. Our butts are sore, we're feeling tired yet also so relaxed. The stretch of approx 40km we rode today was through a valley of dense forest on each side. We passed ...
