Mackay to Hervey Bay!

To view our pictures from our latest adventure, click here: http://picasaweb.google.com.au/ThreeVag abonds/MackayToFraserIsland?authkey=C3W X7lvmaGQ# After a weekend of partying in Airlie Beach, we decided that it was time to continue our way down the coast. On Sunday morning, we got back on the road and headed to the next large city -- Mackay. Going through Mackay, we stopped at the harbor and were able to drive along the Marina, a strip of highway with the ocean on both sides. After a quick...

Sailing The Whitsundays & Partying in Airlie Beach

Entry Picture Link: http://picasaweb.google.com.au/ThreeVag abonds/SailingWhitsundaysOnTheBoomerang We left Bowen on Tuesday, September 16 with Airlie Beach as our destination. Airlie Beach is a very popular backpacker town on the beach with a 3-4 block main strip full of touristy shops, cute cafes and, of course, bars. After another day full of grilled cheese, PB&Js and toast with butter and jam... we were VERY ready for a trip on The Whitsundays Islands with REAL food! On Wednesday, Sep...

Life on the ocean wave

G'day from down under to all you good sheilas and blokes! Hope all is well in pomme land! Well here we are in Australia, the half way point of our trip which is all a bit scarey indeed. We arrived into Sydney airport just about 2 weeks ago now where Dave's boots were promptly confiscated by Pest Control and only returned after a thorough power hosing - perhaps not the best introduction to Australia for us or the other poor people on our flight who had to suffer the smell of Dave's sweaty feet...

Australia - Airlie Beach / Whitsundays

Day 1 The long greyhound journey featured a couple of stop-offs, for toilet breaks (2:30am) and breakfast (6:00am). The latter allowed us to take in our first Australian sunrise, over a fog laden field somewhere around Mackay (PIC). We arrived into Airlie Beach at 9:00am and checked into our motel, the Whitsunday Wanderers Resort, only to find that it was the place we had to go to register our place on the Whitsundays Sailing trip - a bit of lucky planning there! On registering we were hit wi...

After sleeping at the road side we got checked into our campsite at 8am on the 2nd dec. It was really close to the airlie lagoon which has 47million litres of water in it. This was great for cooling down and sunbathing as there is no beach at airlie beach! on the 4th we got up early and went on a boat trip to the great barrier reef which was all inclusive which pleased kev as he got morning scones with jam and cream a buffet lunch and fruit salad for afternoon tea. We both went scuba diving a...

Eenmaal daar blee...

Sailing the Whitsundays

... 20 to get a full 45 minute dive. There were only five certified divers who had been diving recently including myself and Alan. The other two certifieds had to get a refresher course. So that afternoon the five of us and a dive master went for a dive near the bay we were anchored in. The diving wasn't outstanding and the visibility wasn't great so we were all a bit disappointed when we resurfaced. We were promised sharks and turtles but saw none. Afterwards we were ...

... one night which was great. I have no idea why cowboys put themselves through it but it's very entertaining. I'm now in Airlie Beach which is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go for an overnight sailing cruise so instead squeezed as much in as possible on a jet rafting boat.. We took a bush walk where we got amazing views of Whitehaven beach - the colour of the water is unbelievable. After lunch on the beach we ...

Not whitsundaying at Airlie beach

We had an overnight bus up the coast to Airlie beach - was pretty uncomfortable, had some lovely folks in front forcing seats back as far as humanely possible in front of us - yep its stopped going back now BECAUSE THATS MY KNEE!!! I'm all for a reclining seat, but trying to force it back further than its intended tends to have consequences when there is someone sitting behind. The journey was long and sleep free. I do remember a blurry stop off at Rockhampton at around 12am. I ...
