To view our pictures from our latest adventure, click here: http://picasaweb.google.com.au/ThreeVag abonds/MackayToFraserIsland?authkey=C3W X7lvmaGQ# After a weekend of partying in Airlie Beach, we decided that it was time to continue our way down the coast. On Sunday morning, we got back on the road and headed to the next large city -- Mackay. Going through Mackay, we stopped at the harbor and were able to drive along the Marina, a strip of highway with the ocean on both sides. After a quick...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia 3vagabondsEntry Picture Link: http://picasaweb.google.com.au/ThreeVag abonds/SailingWhitsundaysOnTheBoomerang We left Bowen on Tuesday, September 16 with Airlie Beach as our destination. Airlie Beach is a very popular backpacker town on the beach with a 3-4 block main strip full of touristy shops, cute cafes and, of course, bars. After another day full of grilled cheese, PB&Js and toast with butter and jam... we were VERY ready for a trip on The Whitsundays Islands with REAL food! On Wednesday, Sep...
Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia 3vagabondsG'day from down under to all you good sheilas and blokes! Hope all is well in pomme land! Well here we are in Australia, the half way point of our trip which is all a bit scarey indeed. We arrived into Sydney airport just about 2 weeks ago now where Dave's boots were promptly confiscated by Pest Control and only returned after a thorough power hosing - perhaps not the best introduction to Australia for us or the other poor people on our flight who had to suffer the smell of Dave's sweaty feet...
Airlie Beach, Australia adfieldbigtripDay 1 The long greyhound journey featured a couple of stop-offs, for toilet breaks (2:30am) and breakfast (6:00am). The latter allowed us to take in our first Australian sunrise, over a fog laden field somewhere around Mackay (PIC). We arrived into Airlie Beach at 9:00am and checked into our motel, the Whitsunday Wanderers Resort, only to find that it was the place we had to go to register our place on the Whitsundays Sailing trip - a bit of lucky planning there! On registering we were hit wi...
Airlie Beach / Whitsundays, Australia gonetilwheneverAfter sleeping at the road side we got checked into our campsite at 8am on the 2nd dec. It was really close to the airlie lagoon which has 47million litres of water in it. This was great for cooling down and sunbathing as there is no beach at airlie beach! on the 4th we got up early and went on a boat trip to the great barrier reef which was all inclusive which pleased kev as he got morning scones with jam and cream a buffet lunch and fruit salad for afternoon tea. We both went scuba diving a...
Eenmaal daar blee...

Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia kwagjiani... decided to park up next to us. We went into town for supplies for our trip, hat - check, sunscreen - check, alcohol - check! $7 Fish and chips for lunch, great then off to the lagoon for a swim. They have a lagoon because for half the year the sea is filled with nasties like stingers and sharks and it's just easier to stay out the water. The lagoon is really cool and everyone was just chilling out sunbathing and swimming, hot hot hot! In the ...
Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia pixelchick... a couple from Bournmouth called Katie and Rory. At night there were so many stars and saw the milky way and mars.

During the days we would sail though the seas and to the different Islands and at night anchor up and have a party on the boat.

The second day the wind was over 25 knots with waves over 15 foot crashing over the boat. Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia iandanderson... in Airlie Beach with Melissa and Amber. That's really all I've done in that town; kill time. Shame, but the anticipation of this sailing trip was just so high! These islands are very spectacular. Beautiful rocky and treed rolling hills. Actually, except for the fact that the water is crystal blue, some sections of the terrain look strikingly similar to Muskoka and the Canadian Shield (although, i must say, our rocks are more beautiful... call me biased ...
