Chop Gate to Blakey Ridge

... lost count of the number of howdo's and orright's as we passed folk! We walked over the gently rolling Urra, Farndale, and High Blakey Moors, one massive expanse of wind swept heather. What a lonely eerie place it would be in the winter mist. Along the way we saw grouse, grazing sheep spread sparsely, a few rabbits and small birds. In no time at all we were approaching Blakey and our B&B. The Lion Inn has been a welcome site to weary travellers for nearly 500 ...

... We began our walk into the Cleveland Hills of the North Yorkshire Moors. The weather was low 20's and fine, another perfect walking day. We started climbing as soon as we left Osmotherley, reaching Scarth Wood Moor in quick time in the company of a Yorkshire couple walking their dog. We could see the flat grounds of the Vale of Mowbray immediately below, the distant Pennines beyond, and towards the horizon a couple of high peaks from the Lakelands. We walked across all of ...

Went north out of Lincoln this morning along Ermine street, the ancient roman road. Dead straight mile after mile after mile. Across the Humber bridge, very spectacular, and on to Beverley. This has clearly been a very well off Yorkshire town from the wool trade days, and is still very smart. I wasn't expecting to see an Armani store in a Yorkshire town. Then on to Scarborough, ...

A trip around the Moors.

The first chore of the day was to sort out the smell in the lounge. After some sniffing and detective work a dead mouse was extracted from the big red sofa. Job well done. It was then time for Andrew, Elly & I to go for a drive around the Yorkshire Moors. We went to Whitby and then around the Moors and back to Stillingfleet. We had a lovely BBQ tea and a couple of nice red wines from Andrews stock and then it was off to ...
