... donkeys up or to walk nearly 700 slippery stairs!)

At Fira's Avis depot, we discovered that the 'manager' was 'busy' elsewhere so our pre-ordered rental car fizzled out; no problem, the agency next door helped us out with a better, cheaper vehicle and we were soon on our way.

We had a list of destinations on the short list but chose to go to Oia (at the far northern tip) first, - we fell in love with Oia and stayed to explore it for as long ...

... piggly way. We are told it takes 1/2 hour to get to the top and 20 minutes to return and we are moored for 1 1/2 hours. I can do this even though my legs are still rather wobbly from walking down the donkey path. This is like walking up the sand dunes in Namibia! Each time you got to the top of a hill, there would be be a taller and bigger hill behind it. My husband thought that he'd just get to the first crater and that would be it but ...

... to the top. We could have chosed to ride up on a donkey but were warned that they can slip and fall on you or just stop and not go anywhere, or we could walk up 540 steps which have a lot of donkey droppings on them. Richard walked up and did very well but we waited for about 15 minutes for him. He is working out everyday at the gym and keeping himself quite fit. The cable car was much easier. We didn't do ...
