The next day was our last in San Francisco, and we had to leave for the airport mid-afternoon, so we got up bright and early and decided to check out the famous Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf ...

... of the wine. I could tell I needed to eat, Chris was practically slurring his words and Rich was giggly! We arrived at Swiss Loius'- a seafood/Italian restaurant, where we were seated near a window over looking the bay as the sun went down. Rich was quite excited to have a seafood platter, Chris has Chicken in Masala wine and mushrooms and I had spaghetti and meatballs. We all also had a garlic bread, which when it came turned out to be a whole ...

Historical Traveler Reviews White Swan Inn, a Joie de Vivre Hotel San Francisco

Home away from Home in San Francisco

    from SanFranciscoBlue

My partner and I decided to be tourists in our own city. For our 9th Anniversary we treated ourselves to a weekend away from home. For this indulgence we chose the White Swan Inn and were pleased that we did. This intimate inn felt more like a well loved European guest house, than a hotel. The staff was friendly, welcoming and pleasant.

    We loved:

    The amenities!

    The room!

    The cleanliness of the place.

The breakfast... we ate far too much and felt like we could eat as much as we wanted, as the food kept coming out of the kitchen!

The location.. easy walk to Nob Hill or Union Square.

One cannot forget the always filled cookie jar in the lobby.

Thank you White Swan for a lovely escape!

Great Hotel, but plan ahead or stay flexible! Have stayed at several times since 1992, and never disapoints. However, because of popularity, book way ahead! 6 months or more is best. Rooms are very large by SF standards, fireplaces in rooms, and a tremendous staff. Free Breakfast and wine in PM is a real plus.

A little bit of Paradise in San Francisco!

    from anonymous

We found a beautiful country B&B in the heart of San Francisco! What a delightful place to spend the evening. We were in the City for a late night party and decided to stay instead of drving home to San Jose. We loved every minute of the stay. The lobby was quaint and Nevin, who checked us in, was helpful and very knowledgeable about San Francisco. We then stepped into a different world in the Bird Cage elevator to our 5th floor room. The room was very spacious and beautiful. We met 2 lovely ladies (from Boston) in the parlor for wine and cheese and saw them again in the AM for a delicious breakfast - LOVED the stratta!! We really had a hard time coming home on Sunday and are know looking for a reason (any reason) to spend the night in San Francisco again! Thanks White Swan Inn...

we spent 5 wonderful days hiking the sights and tastes of hilly san francisco. we began each day with fresh fruit, a variety of tasty baked goods, warm quiche, oatmeal, cereals, juices and coffee. alsolutely 1st rate to begin your day of adventure. after your day of sight seeing, come back to white swan before dinner and enjoy wine that was better than the sonoma and napa valley tours and cheese and vegetable platter. the room and fireplace was delightful, mini fridge with water and soft drinks, turn down with chocolate and robes. staff was very attentive, gave us ethnic restaurant selections, booked our tours, called a cab when tour people forgot us, all with smiles and detail to attention, we will book this hotel each san francisoco visit

    Home away from home

I had to attend a medical conference at the Fairmont Hotel, and since my husband came along with me, I prefered to pick a place where he would feel more at home. We travel a lot, and simply staying in a 5 star hotel is no longer a treat for us. I did a search and found the White Swan Inn and fell in love with the concept, so I booked our stay there. It turned out that the Fairmont Hotel was only 2 blocks uphill from the White Swan Inn. I enjoyed the hike up hill each morning to my conference, wonderful way to fit in some fitness workout before the day long conference!

White Swan Inn is a great place to stay if you prefer quiet, cozy ,home style living. We love the concept of having a fireplace in our room! We didn't need a car during our stay since great restaurants and shoppings were nearby. Airport shuttle arrangement was also convenient. We definitely made the right choice staying there. The staffs were friendly and highly responsive to your needs. We enjoyed our stay there!

    A charming hotel!

    from 00jec

My first trip to San Francisco, I stayed at The White swan inn, real English country style B&B for 6 nights in April 2004. It was on the restful block near by beautiful Nob hill and Union Squire. The homemade breakfast at parlor (really English atmosphere!), the helpful and kindly staffs, to sit by a working fireplace at nights in the cozy room after sightseeing and shopping, everything was a very pleasant and comfortable. The white swan inn is very charming hotel!

Always comfortable at the White Swan Inn

    from anonymous

I have stayed at the White Swan several times over the past 10 years and it never disapoints me for comfort, friendly helpful staff and the best breakfast buffet. I like the quiet street, yet near all attractions of this wonderful city. I love the fireplaces in the rooms and the English country house furnishings. Extremely clean and well keptI always meet interesting people during the wine and sherry hours.I hope the White Swan is here as long as I can travel.

    Warm and inviting-Top Drawer!

Our trip to San Fransico was made even more enjoyable by our stay at the White Swann Inn. So inviting and comfortable. The breakfasts were out-standing! The staff was always available and helpful.

Love, love, love The White Swan Inn

    from anonymous

The White Swan Inn is an elegant and cozy escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It's like staying in a grand house filled with teapots and teddy bears. The staff is warm and helpful, they always remember your name and the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable.

The bonus is that every room has a fireplace. The homemade breakfast is very yummy and its nice to sit and chat with the other guests. If you want to stay downtown and don't want to stay in a generic chain hotel with generic rooms, The White Swan Inn has character and charm to spare.

English Country Comfort - right in Union Square!

    from anonymous

What a great find - who would've guessed you could have all the comforts of an English Country Bed-n-Breakfast - right next to Union Sq. in San Francisco? Working fireplaces in all the rooms, really great breakfast, great location, great value - all in very comfortable, almost luxurious surroundings - highly recommended.
