... room. We went to the night market, but that was just a bunch of people like sardines among random tables of stuff, so we haven't gone back there. There is another market that is open during the day with a bunch of booths and things that we've been to a couple times that was pretty fun.
The weekend trips to Shanghai and Beijing were the best parts of the trip by far. Walking/hiking the Great Wall was an absolutely amazing experience.

I have now been in Hangzhou for 8 days. As each day passes I am learning new things and feeling more and more comfortable. I have almost gotten to the point where I can walk around the streets and ignore the stares.

I also met an English girl at Chinesetown and she was friendly and we exchanged details. She has been here 7 months, she said there is a group of them who hang out and that she would invite me to go out for drinks with them. That sounds great! I am looking forward to starting the classes and getting to know others who are living here.

... meeting me in my hotel at 9am and we decided to walk to my Chinese school which looked so close on the map, but an hour of walking in the stifling humidity quashed my enthusiasm rather quickly. We arrived and it was closed, and concluded that I must return tomorrow to register. Damn! We did some other things including buying a sim card to call my contact at the company where I will be teaching and make arrangements to go in tomorrow to get the residence permit ...
