So some of you have told me that you simply can not read my Kiswahili essay again ha ha so I decided to actually take some time to update my blog properly! Work update So when I last left off Beth from the London School was here in Dar helping out. We managed to go on a few field rides, which were planned for quick morning visits to some high density communities but because of having to deal with miscommunications, getting lost and the formalities of the local street governments these short v...

... you could pick to be slaughtered and then people would bid on the pieces like at an auction. The fish market had fish of all sizes and shapes with tons of flies all over them (hopefully my tuna didn't have all those flies on it). I then bought some dates and was blown away how soft they were. I don't think I've ever had such fresh dates. This was turning out to be a food day and I was scoring two for two. Some people have asked how my stomach was holding up and for those with a faint ...
Dar es Salaam/ Zanzibar, Tanzania mike_bright... Mothers must bring everything required to dress the child - bandages, creams, gloves - all of which are ridiculously expensive here. Most use honey, some don't use anything at all. The children are three and four to a bed, and their mothers stay with them. The overcrowding and the dirt means that infection is very common and mortality from simple injuries is high.
After a week dressing, I moved to paeds general, where the main ...
... who said it all just happened so quick by the time they went to act it was all over. The lads feeling really bad. Probably a good thing we're leaving here tomorrow, despite its apparent beauty. Oh and whilst we were away Jay had grand plans for doing lots of work on the truck, accounts etc etc. Turns out two white water rafting boys he knows came down from Jinja, Uganda for a few days and it turned into quite a messy affair. His bar tab alone was US$580 ...
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania oliveramberHakuna Matata from Tanzania Saturday 7th March - Day 17 Chitimba to Iringa, Kisolanza Farmhouse (500km) Crossing into Tanzania We woke up to rain again, but to add variety it was just a constant drizzle this time instead of torrential downpour. It was a long long drive during which we climbed over 1000m. Our campsite was nestled in a cool forested area which made a lovely change. After putting up tents and airing damp stuff, the rain ...
Mon guide me laisse ...
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania ayack... me aside and asked where I was from. After I told him, he paused and told me how he was an orphan living with his aunt. He asked me where i was staying and then again mentioned how hard things were. Swahili being his first language it was difficult to understand everything he was saying. At one point it seemed like he was asking me for money to buy a fruit. I tried to avoid the topic, for not much more than my own ...
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania parejadeglobo... the contempt in my eyes as he looked back. - In Dar es Salaam now, heading to Zanzibar this afternoon after running some errands (confirm a flight to Uganda, maybe buy a new book). Last night I stayed at Dar's fanciest hotel in what is becoming a rather satisfying tradition - after a few weeks of camping (or sleeping in my sleeping bag to avoid bed-bugs in dingy hotels), I get myself a nice room with a good bed and a shower with plenty of warm, pressurized water... Later, DLF
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania dlfoster88... with just about anything your heart could desire. Trudging onward we came to the next intersection, still absolutely clueless. I hopped forward and asked a man if he knew where "Poppy" was. He hopped up and took it upon himself to take us there. As we progressed we gathered to us two more hotel touts, so we knew we must be getting close. Just when I thought we really couldn't go much farther from anyplace useful, we arrived at Pop Inn. I'm ...
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania youngtravellers... took a tour to prison island. This was probably my favorite day. They have a tortoise sanctuary and the oldest turtle was 175 years old. They were really neat. We got to feed them spinach. After that we went snorkeling. And I finally found the elusive Nemo. The coral was fantastic. There wasn't many fish but I saw nemo so it made it all worth while. That evening we spent out last night at the fish market. It was really funny though ...
