Visited Great Basin National Park. The park is located in far eastern Nevada about an hour drive from Ely and is very remote. Took a 90 min. tour through Lehman Cave and drove the Wheeler Peak (over 10,000 feet) scenic drive. After we returned to Ely we visited the old Nevada Hotel and Casino. This town will never be mistaked for Vegas. It is the real old west.

An unexpected good time was the visit to Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls, Idaho. The falls are massive and in a deep valley surrounded by high cliffs. This is also the site of the famous Evil Knievel motorcycle jump over the Snake River. We left the falls and headed to Ely, Nevada, a five hour drive through some very remote land. I tried to find some garnets and was very disappointed. It takes better eyesight than I have to spot those little gems.
