Passing through Bangkok

Sadly it was time to leave Ko Chang already. We had booked a boat and bus combo to take us back up to Bangkok, meaning we were booked onto the 10.30am ferry. Unfortunately we were not told that to make this ferry you had to be on the 9am taxi to the ferry terminal. We worked this out for ourselves at 9.10 when not one taxi would take us to the ferry! We ended up missing the ferry, luckily however we were not the only ones and the bus was waiting for us at the other side! This did however mean...

Thailand - the busy streets of Bangkok- part 1

12 days in Thailand..... It all started with me almost having to forget the trip all together. Upon our arrival at the airport, I discovered that I was potentially going to have to take another flight to Bangkok the next day by myself!!! Due to complications with my reservation number, which had already been used to check-in supposedly, I told Monique and the others to just go without me and that I would find a way there. After much apprehension they went though security and I was left yellin...

The River Kwai

Today we are off to the river Kwai Bridge made so famous by the film of the same name. There are plenty of well-advertised tourist trips available and are fairly reasonably priced in tourist terms (about $25 U.S.) for a whole day out. However, on Saturdays there is a special priced train ticket for a trip to the bridge and up the gorge beyond the bridge. This tariff is usually sold to the local Thai people and tourists don't get a look-in as it is so cheap (about £1.20). Get the local bus to ...

We woke up ridiculously early to get a taxi to Khao san road. But after arriving at the Orchid Hostel, had a nice continental breakfast at tiptum hostel/restaurant. The bus picked us up very soon after 7, and the minibus was fairly comfortatble, a bit bouncy at the back. First we headed to an original thai house on stilts, saw sugar being made out of Coconut, and had a couple of coconuts. then we headed to the floating market where we got onto a couple of boats with the oarsman and woman at t...

Day 82-Bang Cock

... you, and tell us that they were business ladies. We quickly left to find regular bars but my mind was still tainted. After going to Bossy I couldn’t stop thinking that every local girl was a *****. Anyways, the Thai massages were cheap and rigorous. They stretched, pulled, twitched and extended all parts of our body. It was border line painful but still somewhat relieving. When you walk around in Bangkok you see all sorts of vendors ...

Apparently it's like Marmite....

Bangkok... you either love it or loathe it!

And after 3 nights I think I have set up my tent in the "loathe it" camp. I arrived at the Cozy Bangkok Place hostel just after 11am on Friday. The hostel itself is in a residential part of the city just outside of Chinatown. A traditional thai house with walls and floors of rich coffee coloured teak, carved wooden loungers made comfortable with soft brightly coloured cushions sat low in the entrance hall. Ouside the narrow ...

Night Life on Thong Lor- Upper East Side NYC

... area of town caters to the true expat community that are either government officials, Oil tycoons in sales or those employed by foreign countries to do business here.... the crowd is a strange combination of upper class Korean and Japanese with a small smattering of other Lebanese and a few European looking business people. I'm sat at a night club that is bustling with different faces from all over the world here... they are well dressed in Chanel and YSL bags but ...

Fourth day in Thailand

... and headed back towards Siam.

Next stop was the Jim Thompson's House. This used to be Jim Thompson's real house but after he disappeared they turned it into a museum since he played a big role in bringing Thai silk handicraft back into their culture. His house was made from beautiful teakwood with MANY antiques which were even dates back from the 14th Century. A tour guide gave us a quick tour and explained which each room was but we weren't allowed to take ...

Last week of my first year teaching...

... so it was fun to watch them.

Thursday I had my students first period and then they were gone the rest of the day. They had fun doing centers one last time. Green brought me a Thai looking clock; it was beautiful. After lunch I said so long to my students and headed to the airport for my flight back to the States. I had a safe flight and am glad to be back home for a little bit.
Exploring the 'old city'

... br>
This had been the center of the old city and walking in the grass growing between the falling buildings reminded me of the forum in Rome.

Sadly most of the Buddha statues had been beheaded and looted long ago.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the town from temple to ...
