... is incredibly hilly so we opted to get the cable car up to Kelburn gardens where we got a fantastic view of the city. from there we went to Zealandia which is a wildlife sanctuary which was huge. It was fascinating seeing all these unusual birds and plants.
I love the way that New Zealand tries to keep as much of the natural landscape and as much countryside as possible in the cities.

... Tin, King Kong, District 9, etc. to see some of the creations and watch a short, behind the scenes movie. We circled along the bays and stopped at the top of Mount Victoria for a 360 degree view of the city. We toured the Old St. Paul's Church, constructed completely of tropical woods in 1866 and then had a tour of the Parliament building to learn more about the history and government of New Zealand. ... as other rafts had gone forwards and failed. We began to tip upwards and the water was rapidly flowing around us and swept me up and out on the boat edge. My boat mates kept hold of me and kept me in but it was very scary. After that we rode the rapids well and had so much fun. Gestern bin ich ueber 9 Stunden mit dem Bus von Auckland nach Palmerston

... for so long in the night-time social dead zone that is Rotorua to arrive in a city that was actually alive after 6pm! As we sat and ate dinner we were passed by swathes of students in fancy dress. It took me back several years to our time at St George's, making me feel very old!
