We hang about for a while in the cafe, having a hot drink and a few marshmallows when the lady in the cafe shouts out 'Geyser'. when I looked across I could see that she wasn't talking about me, but pointing back across to the thermal park. A little more climbing out of South Crater and up the side of Red crater (see photos for name explanation) we reached our highest point at Red Crater summit (6200ft). ... had a view of Blue Lake and the Emerald Lakes at the top. The Northern Circuit trail splits from the Alpine Crossing at the Emerald Lakes. We walked by the Emerald Lakes and I can't say this enough, pictures do not do them justice! The color of these lakes was simply unreal. Next to the lakes there were areas where steam spewed from the rocks. From here we had about a 2 hour walk to our campsite.
