... but we just had to keep plugging on. Nelson to me has nothing going for it, although we skipped the city centre so may being a bit harsh. The road in skirts the ocean and had quite a bit of industry, not appealing. The water also appears to be shallow as well. Our trip from East to west was again very hilly, windy and some lovely scenery. About 25 kilometres from Westport we came across Hawks Crag, a mighty bend in the river and then a one way road ...

... Franz Josef, a small town at the foot of the glacier mountains. We passed through only about 3 towns to reach there, but only one was big enough to have a petrol station. So far on the South Island we have seen far far more animals than people, and so few buildings you can forget that people even live here. South Island: Part 2

... engines cut and we plateaued to a horizontal level. The green light went and the plastic door at the back of the plane rolled up to allow the rushing air inside. Soph was first to jump. Her tandem man shuffled her towards the end of the plane and she sat on the edge of the world. Her cameraman was already clinging onto the outside of the plane by this point. I shouted "go on Soph!!", but I don't think she heard me. She rolled forward, and she was gone - ...

    Piss Up In A Brewery

... the loosest possible sense, we paid $20 each and were served samples of 8 different beers, each poured into two 2 litre bottles and left for us to help ourselves. The next one not being poured until the previous was all gone. There wasn't much explanation of the brewing process or the beers themselves, it was more a case of 'go hard, of go home' or so we were told by Marc, who just so happened to be from Gravesend back home and who just ...
