Another tick in our box of "must visit" but a new entry "must see Ireland in the autumn ...
... me to go pick out a painting for myself: a gift.
Standing there, unexpectedly shaking, I remember my inability to wrap my head around the brutality of her kindness.
I could not-- and still cannot-- understand why she gave me her artwork for free. She said something about what a nice girl I was. Something about welcoming me to Ireland. Something about my falling in love with a boy-- or this place-- and never going back.
