Left Moab, sort of early, for Vernal. Our trip took us through Colorado and over a mountain pass. I thought my days of traveling on steep mountain roads with sheer drops and switchbacks was finished - wrong! Today we are in Dinosaur National Park. True to its name it is completely full of dinosaur bones. In fact there is a wall (about two busses long) with 1500 dinosaur bones on it. My favourite thing about the wall is that all the bones are real, none of them were casted! We also did a walk with a ranger. She described why there are so many dinosaur bones. Immediately after lunch we enter the beautiful Split Mountain Canyon. The rock layers visible where the river cut into the mountain, and the general upheaval surrounding the entrance are amazing. I am certain that I am using too many words like beautiful, amazing, stunning, and so forth, but I simply cannot come up with enough different words to praise the scenery.

... the end of the story - in the morning Glenn was resigned to losing his rope, but Jill and Greg kept working at it. We were starting to think that it would be a game for future campers at Jones Hole 3 for years, but to great cheering, they finally freed it from the tree.
One extra note - Tevas are the traditional river footwear, especially for women. I have included a photo of the Tevas, and what our feet look like after spending much time on the river!
There are signs for more petroglyphs along the road. They were more interesting than the ones at Echo Park. There is also an old homestead. I took a few pictures and then headed for the Quarry Visitor Center.
