Yesterday was a day of fun and travel. John and David had fun on the jet boat. I had hardly finished the blog before they came back and we headed for the train. We road the train to Fairbanks, and went out for ice cream with new friends, Evie and Dick. Then downloaded photos before going to bed for a good night's sleep.
Well, it was bags out at 7:30 this morning, so we got to sleep in a little this morning. Also David got his own room last night so John and I had a little better night'...

We left Kenny Lake this morning. We decided not to install the tow car shield because the car was so dirty that we did not want the cover abrading the dirt on the paint. We also planned on stopping at the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Slana Ranger Station to drive Nebesna Road back into the north part of the park. <br> We retraced our path north to Glennallen (Glenn Highway and road from Anchorage) where we made a ...

Maybe we will do that on the way back. We continue on to Lake Kluane. What an absolutely beautiful lake. It is the largest in the Yukon Territory and it is a natural lake. We continue on and as I said the road is mainly wonderful until you hit those permaheaves which are ...

If you’ve never traveled a road like this, just equate it to a small roller coaster and you might get an idea as to how it feels. Every few feet, the orange flags along the roadside would come into view, and we would slow down from our top speed of about 40 mph. Not being an engineer, I can only tell you that "frost heaves" are caused by the thawing of the ground under the road bed which ...
Tok, Alaska, United States dlpoolWe left beautiful Valdez and arrived at Tok this afternoon where we will camp for the night. The road to Valdez is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed our travels today, with the exception of frost heaves from time to time. It is so difficult to get and keep good road with the winter ...
Tok, United States bwmuzik... the road we see some buildings on the left, and a picnic table with one of those cut out bears next to it. Yikes! It's not a cut out bear - it's the real thing. It turned around and ran off. I didn't even get a sniff of the thing. After the bear excitement we see our campground up here on the right. It's a nice one with little grassy spots and trees, no trains, no planes, not much highway noise. Your campground critique from, Remington Beagle
Tok, Alaska, United States vwinansAfter visiting Eagle, I then returned along the same road to get back to the Top of The World Highway and continued to Chicken. Chicken was originally called Ptarmigan, but the miners had such a hard time spelling it they renamed it Chicken. There are several businesses, but my favourite is the Chicken Mercantile Emporium, Liquor ...

Next, it was back to the first Alaska Campground we stayed at over a month ago - the Sourdough. Still one of the best on the entire trip - every site has trees and it feels as if you are in the woods. Right after we set up, Pooh relaxed at the RV and I went to town to check out some stores to get last ...

The road from the US border to Tok was a series of 'pavement breaks' (dirt and gravel). We couldn't get up past 50! By the time we got to Tok, we were whipped puppies. Fortunately Thompson's Eagle Claw was easy to find and we got a cabin. Thompson's is great place. Motorcycles only ...
Tok, Alaska, United States edward.tanguy... the beautiful Kluane Lake on our side which is the largest lake in the Yukon. If is of course created by glaciers. Two major things we saw on the road today. One, was our first Grizzle Bear. We have seen several Black Bears, but this one was a big Grizzle. A truck is the best place to see it, not the trail. Another one was a motorcycle down a deep ravine on the side of the mountain. Everyone seemed OK as people were trying to get the motorcycle out of the ...
