First chance I've had to write anything since going on the cruise. It never got above 12 degrees C today and we are going out for an indigenous dinner tonight - with dancing. We will be wearing all the clothes we have because it is outside as well!!!

The men and elves were about to fight the dwarves, when Gandalf yelled that the goblins were coming. Right away everyone forgot about everything and got together so they could figure out how to fight the goblins. We came with a battle plan but we had to get them in the valley. My job was to ride out with others and attack them head on with horses. We did that, but there were a lot of casualties. It worked and I made it back with about 20 out of the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Westin Ottawa
Best hotel in Ottawa!
I regularly go to Ottawa for business meetings and have tried the vast majority of the hotels. The Westin Ottawa is the best, with no competition. The Fairmont is located quite close but, as with most Fairmonts, the rooms you get are quite tiny unless you're staying in a suite. The Westin is connected to the Rideau Mall and a block away from the market. The service is excellent, rooms are large, and the a/c controls work great! It's so good that I'm staying here again for my meeting next week!
January 2004 Stay
Stayed 5 nights in late January. The hotel was fabulous. Very clean, modern and well appointed. Room service was excellent.
My room overlooked Parliament House and the Rideau Canal which I loved.
Since Air Canada lost my luggage, I was pleasantly surprised to find you could access Rideau Shopping Center directly from the 3rd floor without having to go outside.
Amazing little pub about one block down on Rideau Street. Highlander Pub serving great pubfare. 12 ounce steak with all the fixings including ceasar salad for $12.99 and a scotch bar to die for. Hubby had the roast lamb and thought it was the best ever - and he is really hard to please!
My husband and I attended a dinner dance at the Hotel last night. We were guests of friends attending a finance conference there. I have a severe allergy to wheat flour. When the waiters started serving food I told the young fellow at our table, who told a young woman server and they brought me alternative dishes. He told me not to worry. They were great . As the meal went on I received a special plate with no wheat.
You don't know how much I appreciated their care and concern for me, a complete stranger. I appreciated their efforts because it just helped me not to worry about the food I was eating. It was a fun evening and I wish you to tell your serving staff that a woman really apprecited their efforts. Hats off to the Chef too cause the substitute dishes were delicious!! Thanks so much. Sincerely, Sheila
Loved the Westin
We spent two nights in Ottawa (10/6-10/8) at The Westin and were treated like royalty. It was our anniversary so we had dinner in their hotel restaurant, Daly's. It was well worth the money! Food was excellent and our waitress professional but friendly. There was an error with room service delivering our unfinished bottle of wine and once I called down to ask when it would be delivered, they apologized (which wasn't necessary) and not only sent up the unfinished bottle, but another new bottle and a plate of pastries with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate! Our room was beautiful too. On the 19th floor with a 180 degree view of the Rideau Canal, Chateau Laurier and the city. What beauty at night with the city lights and the sun rising in the morning!! The price was very good too.. $180 USA per night. Valet parking kept our car safe for an extra $25. We didn't need it at all. We spent all our time walking. The only disappointment was the National Gallery was closed on Monday and Tuesday......the two days we were there. None of the literature told us this when we planned our trip. There are many things left to explore and we hope to return in the future. A definite place to visit for romance and only a 3 1/2 drive from central NYS.
Wonderful room, loved the bed
When we arrived at the hotel we were very tired due to plaine delays.
We were given very good service and was in our lovely room in no time.
The bed was just wonderful. We had a very restful night and was ready to go on to our three day Tops IRD
Best Hotel in Ottawa
My husband and I have been staying at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa 3 - 4 times a summer and sometimes in the winter for over four years now. We have never had a bad experience there, and find the service and quality to be first-class! The location is great, too - right downtown, within walking distance of everything. There is a large shopping mall that is attached to the hotel, and it has a wonderful place to get your meals at reasonable prices. There is a book store across the street with Internet access, as well. We like to get a suite with a view of the Canal and the Parliament Buildings -- just beautiful! The beds are soft and have great big fluffly comforters and tons of pillows. We love the Westin and always feel pampered and special there and look forward to returning every year. It's a great hotel and well worth the price.
The hotel was nice, but the staff at the front desk were extremely unhelpful and unwilling to better our stay in any way. They were unfriendly and behaved in a manner which led us to believe that they did not appreciate our staying with them. I have never been treated so poorly by hotel staff in my life.
Best Stay while in Ottawa !!
Of all the times I have stayed At the Westin-Ottawa, there has NOT been one bad occasion. I can not say enough about the hotel - excellent rooms with beautiful views of downtown. And the location is perfect - walking distance to the Parliament. Would go back there in a heartbeat. Thanks Westin!
The Westin - Wow
Upon check-in at the Westin Hotel on Saturday, March 22nd/03, I was told our room had been damaged by the previous guest and was not available. After much searching, the young woman at the reservation counter concluded that the only available room was the Colonel By Suite - at the same price as the previously reserved room. This made for a very enjoyable weekend - Awesome -thanks Westin
Unsatisfactory experience; beware
We really did not like this hotel. here is why:
1. Chronically understaffed front desk with long lines all of the time.
2. Puny pool and exercise area.
3. We bought our rooms through an internet service. The worst rooms are reserved for those unfortunate enough to use such a service. We had a non-smoking room which had obviously been smoked in with a view of a concrete wall. They said we could switch the next day. The only catch, which we were never told, was that the new room would not be ready until 700 pm.
4. Our room keys repeatedly malfunctioned.
5. Inefficient bellhop service.
Sorry I can't be more favorable. This hotel bills itself as an efficient luxury hotel, but is far from it.
