Technically our day in Dubai began shortly after we landed, I wondered why people were saying "Good morning" - they did because it was actually morning. Fortunately we managed to sleep although had a sluggish start.
The first thing we noticed, of course, was the intensely humid heat - it was 33 when we arrived and that again when we stepped out this morning - my glasses keep fogging up!! We went for a very short walk, Mike checked out the pool and then I ...

... with around 40 seats, a few were empty. Our return journey is to Cape Town, a longer flight than Johannesburg.
Once we were up in the air the air hostess brought us our second breakfast of the day, it came in a box, a sandwich, and a cereal bar, she then served coffee and juice.
There isn't any entertainment on this flight so we read and dozed.

I was not made to suffer through Canadian winters. That heat and humidity that
engulfed me in its entirety the second I stepped out of Dubai airport, only
reiterated that for me. And if I was feeling even a smidgen of homesickness,

... marbled floor inlaid with coloured marble shaped into large flowers found in the dessert with two rows of columns either side, each inlaid with long vines and flowers reminiscent of the Taj Mahal … simply beautiful.

We take the escalator downstairs to the ablutions area (no photos allowed in that direction) and into the toilet area where we are confronted by a large semicircular panel of Turkish tiles.

... Then we went on a river boat on the Dubai creek and across to the old part of Dubai.

The spice souk was interesting, but most sold similar stuff. They were very very pushy tho, and you really didn't want to meet their eyes or they would try to sell you something. Then we went to the gold souk and really started realising what pushy meant! Allan told one of them we were from NZ and he kept trying to get me into the store calling me ...
