... and drapes open and closed ... exhausting, of course. Here there are buttons next to the bed to handle that hard work.

Breakfast is served next to the rooftop pool and if you get the nice waitress to show you, you can go to a spot to see the Hollywood sign in the far distance. ... yet another metal detector. Phones that had been missed through the first security checkpoint are confiscated. And yet, as we observe inside, still more phones slip through as people sneak selfies.
Up the stairs and onto the bleachers, we are directed to standard banquet chairs. Not going to be comfortable for the next three to four hours... sigh.
Warm up guy is strolling around coaching everyone "we're gonna have a great time" "lots of applause everyone" ...

... that turned into a saga - we tried several places that looked fine on the internet but were absolute **** when we arrived - and then after spending half an hour grid locked in traffic we eventually found a place near Universal Studios which had 2 rooms available! It wasn't flash and the rooms were tiny, but it was clean and the car was secure! Enough said! Downtown looks pretty different to Santa Monica or Venice (what a surprise..), it has a couple of tower buildings, though most of them are bank headquarters. The cars are not so fancy, the people seem to be more like city-dwellers instead of near-beach-wealthy-uptodate-folks.
