... shipping magnate, Sir William Burrell. While in Glasgow and with the Commonwealth games in full swing, we popped in to watch the men's hockey semi-finals between South Africa and Canada. South Africa won and will meet Australia in the finals later today. We could have stayed on in the pouring rain and watched Australia play and win the women's final against England, but chose to watch it on TV! ...

Yet another fabulous day at sea. For the first few hours we reached south down the west Kyle of Bute, but then the wind went to nothing and we motored on to the Isle of Arran. The warmth of the evening was such that I went for a dip, the first of our current adventure.

Wednesday 16th July At Ardrossan had lunch, beautiful lentil soup, as good as Betty's. The soup here has been very good,leek and potato at Kelvingrove, minestrone at ten Botanical Gardens,yellow pea at the Burrell Collection - all flavoursome. We picked up car from Hertz in Glasgow. Mercedes B class. Staff there were very helpful right from the start. It seems the service we have received here has been much better that we would have had back home. Getting ...
