Leaving the cabin at Ayr, we drove to Greenock and met cousins Robert and Jess - lovely people. They had the whole day planned for us, driving us around in their little Kia bus - which was a break for Al, not having to drive. ... special two days exploring the various archeological sites and forts, and hiking the wall itself. It was windy but mostly clear -- what luck! Watching Henry run with joy along the parts of the wall okay for walking was an absolute pleasure. We also were fortunate to hear a talk by the lead archeologist at the Vindolanda excavations and watch the excavations taking place. When you're sixteen, you can come back and be part of the team.

Off early with a exciting drive through the windy roads of the Lake District. Discovered Sharyn not keen on narrow winding roads she was very quiet most of the way through the beautiful countryside. Stop off at the ancient ruins of Hadrian's wall amazing. Stopped at the Scottish boarder at Gretna Green then on to Ayr. Weather has turned wet but hopefully if forecast is correct warm weather will be back with us tomorrow ...
