I guess it depends on the airport, but San Diego airport is pretty small and not necessary to go 2 to 3 hours before departure for international travel. I arrived at 5am and the flight was at 6:30am. Just enough time and especially with the new TSA precheck luck of the draw lines.

We woke up at 5 am to get a good jump on the desert and our goal of Barrel Springs by days end, a short 16.7 miles away.
