    Historical Traveler Reviews West Inn & Suites Carlsbad

    Top Notch Family Friendly Place

    from

    We stayed at the West Inn on 8/16 and 8/17. I can't say enough good about this place. From the super comfy beds, to the Flat screen TV and DVD Player in room, microwave, bar sink and mini fridge, our double king room had everything we needed and more.

    It is located very close to Legoland and the beach, and the free underground parking was very convenient. The staff went out of the way to make us feel welcome and make our stay very enjoyable.

    This place is super clean (and I'm a neat freak) and It is worth the money for the peace of mind.

    The breakfast buffet had sausage (alternating with bacon), scrambled eggs, french toast/pancakes, fruit, assorted pastries, toasts, juice, coffee, etc. We definately loved this breakfast. They keep the kitchen area immaculate.

    The leather chairs, and dark wood add a nice touch of class

    My only complaint is that the wireless internet (free!!) is a little slower than I'm used to, but I shouldn't have been working on vacation anyway. My connection speed said 5MBits, but it seemed quite a bit slower.

    we found our new place in Carlsbad, I'll be back often.

    Wonderful Experience

    from

    Just spent an overnight trip at the hotel with a day trip to Legoland. I can't say enough about the friendly staff and 3 month new facility. The place is immaculate and a very comfortable decor. Nothing but friendly staff including a free shuttle to and from Legoland.

    This is a wonderful family oriented hotel with a wonderful full breakfast buffet as well.

    P.S. Bring the popcorn because there is a microwave in the room along with an empty ice cold refrigerator to stash some extra food. No need to empty those useless bar frigerators.

    Thank you West Inn!

    Loved It! Very Clean and Comfortable!

    from

    We stayed here over 4th of July and it was awesome. Two king beds and a flat screen TV. The breakfasts were nice and hot with plenty of variety to fit everyone from the meat eater to the morning "lite" eater.

    Their complimentary shampoo's and soaps are great too!

    Loved the West Inn and Suites!

    from

    We stayed at the West Inn and Suites for 4 nights and would definitely stay there again. Yes, the location is between the freeway and the railroad tracks but 3 out of the 4 of us didn't hear the trains at all and that 1 person just barely heard it. All 4 of us didn't hear any of the freeway noise. We stayed in a deluxe double king room and it was spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. We had a room on the first floor and noticed immediately the high ceilings. The beds, linens, and towels were so comfortable and obviously high quality. The beds were Simmons Beautyrest Exceptionales. Definitely the best sleep we've ever had in a hotel. The room was immaculate.

    We definitely appreciated the hot water which stayed hot through 4 showers and the powerful AC system which wasn't noisy!!! We used the microwave and refrigerator and even the javapod/teapod that was in the room. We appreciated the in-room safe as well. We liked the fact that you can set the safe to your own personal combo. We also enjoyed the hi-definition TV. Good selection of channels and DVD player available in room.

    Definitely a kid-friendly hotel....I noticed 1 room was having a portacrib delivered complete with bumper (not a pack-n-play!!). They even had a variety of little swimmers available at the pool at no cost. There is a small arcade room with 4 games on the second floor. And in the dining/sitting area they have games available for use (jenga, wood puzzles for toddlers, more advanced puzzles, trivial pursuit, & yahtzee)

    The entire family enjoyed breakfast. Depending on the day they had either sausage or bacon, scrambled eggs (and salsa), boiled eggs, pancakes or french toast, a variety of pastries, fruit salad, 3 different types of cereal, 2% and whole milk, guava juice, orange juice, 4 different types of coffee, bread and toasters available.

    In the evenings they offered complimentary cookies (oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip) with milk. Coffee was available 24-hrs. They had 2 computers available in the business center with free internet access. The free parking downstairs was convenient. We even used the fitness room with had 4 different types of equipment and 2 flat screen TV's mounted to the walls.

    We had an excellent stay and would definitely stay there again!

    Great Place

    from

    We stayed there for 3 nights during our visit to the beach with our two young girls. The rooms are very clean and obviously in great shape considering the hotel is only 2 months old. The king beds are a treat considering we stayed the previous nights 4 nights in an Embassy Suites with two double beds.

    The breakfast was perfect for us. Just enough to get us started without having to visit a restaurant and waste time getting seated and served. Quick and satisfying.

    We were concerned about the location since it is sandwiched between the freeway and the railroad tracks, however, they have insulated the walls and windows so well that you can't hear the freeway at and you only hear the train's horn on occasion, which wasn't an issue.

    Although it's not located on the beach, it was a very short drive to access a beautiful beach with a lot of sand and a shallow entry so the girls were able to play all day in the waves.

    The staff was fantastic. We asked for dinner recommendations on two nights and after telling them what we were interested in, they gave us King's Fish House and Charlie's by the Sea in Cardiff. They even called to book our reservation to make sure we would get a table at Charlie's for sunset. Both recommendations were perfect for what we wanted and I'd recommend both restaurants.

    Enjoy your stay...

    EXCELLENT in Every Way!!

    from

    We stayed at the hotel's Double King Suites for our recent visit to Legoland, and we were VERY impressed by how wonderful our stay was! The room size was very generous for 4 little rascals to roam around, the king-size beds are SOOOOO comfortable, and the pull-out sofa bed was very good too! Amenities include 2 wide-screen TVs & DVD players, refrigerator and microwave, and AVEDA toiletries! AND warm cookies and milk in the lobby in the evenings, and the cookies are freshly baked and sooo yummy! Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Complimentary full breakfast was delicious, with scrambled eggs, bacons, variety of pastries/bread, 3 kinds of cereals, variety of yogurt and fruit juices, and EXCELLENT coffee.

    The only minus on our visit was it was a little difficult to locate the elevator in the parking garage, but the staff told me that they're working on the sign!

    I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Carlsbad area. Although the room rate was a bit pricey, but it sure was worth it for the service and amenities received.

    Great Place To Stay

    from

    This hotel was very, very nice. We stayed in the smallest of the rooms but it we were very comfortable with five in the room. The staff was wonderful, they provied a shuttle to and from Legoland and other Carlsbad locations. The free morning breakfast was the nicest I have seen at a hotel/motel. The hotel has a business center, conference area, meeting rooms, laundry, arcade and pool/hot tub. I would defintely stay here again when visiting Southern California. And, the staff was superb.

    Wonderful!!!

    from

    Just returned from 1 night at this wonderful Hotel. Wish I would have stayed longer. I think it is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Brand New!! The beds were so comfy. The staff was absolutley great. Breakfast was very tasty. Everything was top of the line!! Hope to get the chance to return some day! Thanks!

    It was great.

    from

    My wife, 5 year old and 18 month old stayed 2 nights during a week long Southern California trip. It was the best hotel we stayed at hands down. It is one of the nicest that I have ever stayed at. The rooms were very clean and nice, very large, beds were great, tvs were awesome, had dvd players too. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. I actually felt special here, and not just like another guest. The pool was beautiful, breakfasts were nice, it was all good. The location is not right by the water, but close enough to drive or walk to, it is also very close to I-5 and other attractions. If I ever make it back to Carlsbad I will definately stay here again.

    Wonderful and Delightful Stay :)

    from

    We were at West Inn for 5 days and it was a wonderful experience. When we arrived there there was a Commerce Meeting taking place and we were given a bottle of wine for the inconvenience that we had experience.

    They had so many amenities I lost count. Here is what impressed me:

    We had reserved the Double King Suite - it gave us a separate room which was nice.

    * Washer/Dryer (same floor as ours)

    * Gym

    * Pool (and had Little Swimmers)

    * Beach Towels

    * Complimentary Breakfast

    * Cookies & Milk for guest @ night

    * Mini Arcade

    * Business Center w/ printer set up

    * Wireless Internet Connection

    * Wonderful comfy beds

    * White fluffy comforters (would love a pair @ my home)

    * Flat Panel TV's (2 in our room)

    * DVD (again 2 )

    * Microwave

    * Digital Room Safe

    * Refrigerator

    * Aveda Cleansing Product (my all time favorite brand)

    * Triple Pane Windows (barely hear the train - faint sound)

    We went over to Lego Land and it is so close and the inn provided shuttle service - it was to convenient. We were less than a mile from the beach - it was just a great experience for our little 3 yrd old boy!

    The entire staff was very helpful, pleasant and just really nice to interact w/ -very personal!

    We will definitely come back to the this INN -- we LOVED IT!!

    Hope future guest visit this place and get enjoyment from it!

    Today we left the Orchid Suites in Hollywood and set out for Carlsbad. Just as well as I don't think the bank account needed another hit of late night shopping. We were really impressed with the Orchid suites, a lovely small hotel in a fantastic location.

    First stop this morning was Santa Monica again. This time to chase some Nikes that …

There were some highlights though, most notably the kids driving school, where both Sam and Amy got to actually drive Lego cars on scale streets and get their Lego drivers license, which was very cool. A similar ride involving Lego boats was lots of fun, as was the 4D Lego Chima movie. Other highs included making your own 3 pack of Lego mini figures in the configuration of your choosing ...

    The final person I've been introduced to in Carlsbad is Gabi and her family. I've now been out two weekends with Gabi, her mother Sandra, friend Alma, her boyfriend Rob one weekend and Mike the other. The good thing about going out in Oceanside is that they're are so many Marines around and usually I feel bad about people buying me drinks but they earn so much money I didn't mind. Sandra let me ...

    But now it does, and in a content way, I'm ready to stop pedalling, for now at least.

    The US has been full of surprises. It's been tougher than expected and the cycling demanding in a way that was different to Canada. Constantly undulating road progressing to some big, steep climbs. In this past section alone there were 6, one thousand foot passes to tackle within 3 days. The traffic also has continued to get ...

    ... baseball rather than watch the whole game as we had an early start the next day. We saw 6 (out of 9) innings and only 1 point was scored. I hadn't realised how difficult it was for the batters to actually hit the ball; in the 2 hours we were there the scoreboard showed only 9 hits. At one point the ball came very close to us and everyone was hoping it would come over the fence.
