... the overcast conditions should clear' was the opinion from the weather experts. Unfortunately it was a bit further than that but eventually the skies did clear. It had been bumpy riding along at 2,000ft (approx. 1,600ft above the ground) – much like some of our flying in the UK – and it didn’t get any better when the clouds allowed us to climb up to a whopping 2,500ft and as far as the backseat was concerned it seemed worse! The only saving grace ...

murky red from the very red soil. However, all of that is forgiven in light of
gasoline prices of less than $2.50/gal. Diesel runs around $2.56!

Easy driving, fiercely competitive card games at night and lots of evening walking
after sitting in the vehicles all day.

... gal. At 11:30 we crossed the state line into Arkansas. We weren't sorry to leave the roads of Oklahoma behind. Overall they are some of the worst roads we have driven on in an RV. California is the worst.

Special report: 1) we have only watched TV once on this trip for an hour show on PBS, and haven't missed it at all, and 2), for the road kill report for today--many armadillos, two deer...and MANY less bugs on the windshield!

... cleaned up and sorted, we got on that shuttle and headed for Beale Street, one of the coolest places on earth. There we met another mad writer type, Gary, and his lovely wife Michelle. We went to the Rum Boogie Café, whose motto is "Eat. Drink. Boogie Repeat" We listened to great blues while eating Memphis BBQ and drinking a nice drop called Southern Pecan brown ale by Lazy Magnolia brewery ...

... was expecting. However, on the other side of the road is another story. There are shops upon shops of Elvis souvenirs, everything you could possibly think of to put 'Elvis Presley’ on is here to buy from bobble heads to replicas of his costumes (about $2500.) and everything in between. TVs and speakers are everywhere playing Elvis movies, documentaries, songs, and interviews. It’s mind boggling how much money probably goes through here every ...
