Well, I jinxed myself by saying that no one had been in the hospital yet, Elise had to go in to get fluids and antibiotics. We think she drank some water in her bath, because she threw up and had diarrhea all night. (Everyone else was fine and we had all eaten the same food.) She continued to throw up all day and the following night, so that 36 hours later, she needed some IV fluids and she was running a slight fever so the doctor ...
Qingtian, Zhejiang, China paulfeuerbornChina has had the one child policy in force since 1980. So people have not seen families with more than one child in almost 30 years. Now that all those only children are old enough to procreate, the latest policy is, that if both husband and wife are only children, they're allowed to have 2 children, to represent each side of the family. There have been so many comments, stares, surprised ...
Qingtian, Zhejiang, China paulfeuerbornA family visit would not be complete without a visit to our ancestors' graves. We visited 4 gravesites on the hillside above my great grandfather's house. Here’s a picture of my great grandfather’s tomb. To scare the "evil spirits" away, my mom’s cousin set off fireworks at each gravesite. That was quite a thrill for the kids.

Paul bought a few Roman candles, small firecrackers and little cone shaped ...
Qingtian, Zhejiang, China paulfeuerbornMy mom's relatives (first cousins and their families) were so 'keqi’, generous and kind. They invited us over for lunch and dinner, cooking fabulous 17 course meals! We got to see my greatgrandfather’s house (where my grandfather grew up, and my mom came to visit when she was a child). The house is outside of Qingtian city about 10-15 minutes ...
Qingtian, Zhejiang, China paulfeuerborn... of it. Many people from Qingtian have been moving overseas, starting businesses, and mailing money back to their families, so we’ve found this "small city" to be relatively cosmopolitan! There are many overseas Qingtian people living mostly in Europe. We’ve heard people speaking fluent Spanish, French and German here. Actually very few go to America, so we haven’t heard any English!
Qingtian, Zhejiang, China paulfeuerbornOn Sept. 4 China has "Teacher's Day" where students bring in cards and stuff to their teachers. My big question is why we have to work on Teacher's Day but meh, it's cute. There was a little party after work for the English teachers and they gave the four of us at our school some presents and cards and we played games.

I got lucky and I get to stay in my own classroom, which is nice, considering my schedule is really ...

Two steps later I realized it was missing an arm, so I ran back and took the first thing that wasn`t broken and was relatively clean which happened to be a monkey (w0ot!)

There was a many following us around the park and trying to get his kid to say `hello` to us. The kid was not amused.
Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China timkryz... continue to dream up new innovations to attract both professional hair stylists and the consumer. So who "invented" the Curling Iron? Inevitably you find many references to "invented" and "patented by" or "introduced by". The original inventor is lost in the mists of time but examples of the previous sentence are: In1866, Hiram Maxim, who designed the machine gun bearing ...
Wenzhou, China hairiron... she or he doesn't accept more high heels along the hallway to the next door. Then the heels go back down the stairs and the next set of heels climb the stairs to try their luck! Finally it all stopped and I could turn my TV off and grab a few hours sleep. Now that's the reason why such a clean hotel is so cheap! I left around mid morning and headed down to the bus station and found out I had to head to the other bus station ...
