... in a deli and they brought a ton of food with them so we dined in luxury all week (including kangaroo). I tried oysters for the first time..to me they tasted like gooey mussels! Suzy and I went running every day along the coastal path (5kms) and it was wonderful scenery to look at (see photos). On the last night when the blokes went fishing, a dolphin came up to them and stole their fish! (that's what they say...could be a fisherman's tale..)
Nelson Bay, New South Wales, Australia hifi1609We continued our journey south to Sydney, but decided we'd stay a few nights in Nelson's Bay, which Estelle, from our first port of call in Sydney had recommended as it was a very safe place for small children. Indeed she was absolutely right! The bay was calm, the sand was white, the sea azure and clear. Paradise! Only drawback was the room smelt a bit musty, however this wasn't enough to put us ...

Nelson Bay, Australia vagabond-ingWe almost didn't leave Newcastle at all! Although our travel agent had guaranteed that we would receive our passports from the Russians by Wednesday the ninth, it turned out that they were still sitting on her desk, and had been for some time. She sent them by overnight "Express Post" however they did not arrive on Thursday and by noon Friday we were getting very nervous, as there is no weekend postal service and our flight was first thing Monday morning ...
Newcastle, Australia ziniandlulu... his entire body out of the water... it was awesome! If you ask me, he wasn't catching fish... he was just showing off :-) We then headed off for a short voyage around the bay and then back to the marina, a really relaxing trip. On our way back to the bus stop, I looked up and had an aweful feeling that I'de gone and brought English weather with me... a huge black cloud! Justy as we are climbing aboard, the heavens opened.
Nelson Bay, Australia twilliams1988... park. Of course, I forgot to bring my camer. I would huh? Anyways, learned to surf or atlest attempt it. Couple of times I got really thrashed for not stading up at the right time. Basically, you nose dive, hit the bottom, and get drug along until the wave runs out of energy. Honestly, I always thought I was going to droned but end up fine in the end. Also, that day went ...
Myall Lakes National Park, Australia gustcles... about 10 minutes on the veranda. We later found out that this was a kookaburra and that it regularly visits the open air cooking area hoping to be fed. In the evening we cooked some great steaks on the barbie. Its been nice being able to cook our own food for a change -- this wasn't really an option for most of the time we spent in Asia.
Anna Bay, Australia andyheather... totally takin the **** out of Ali's Dorset accent (video coming soon) which is really mean and lame. we should probably stop. We also had to pull up some big plants, and they all had soil on them, so we started flingin them. Then the guy in charge of the project rang us up and said 'oh youre doing a great job, i very pleased. I just cant understand what the technique behind throwing the plants is. Does ...
Newcastle, Australia gnarlytom... named. Here in Nonna's kitchen stories wrap themselves around me. First the stories of suffering, hardship and anxiety. Typical migrant stories about a difficult life. The courage of starting afresh in a foreign land with little to no support. Memories of the long and arduos journey on the boat to get here, recounts of asking for simple things like eggs at the corner store, which had been embarssing and humiliating affairs to be avoided. Especially as other ...
