... open 24/7. So the washroom problem has been resolved and we are settling down for a nice long nap, heading out to Salt Lake City in the morning.

          Chris -

Our trip across Nevada was stark but beautiful. We choose I80, partly because it was fast but partly because it approximates the 'California Trail' that gold seekers and then settlers took out west. It is a difficult enough trip at 75mph ...

... pressure of everyone else smacking their lips and insisting that it was indeed salt.

          * we also saw the curvature of the earth. We didn't realize it as we were there, but when we got back to the hotel and did some reading, we learned that we were along a stretch where the earth's curve can be seen. Check out the panoramic. Look at how the distance between the sky and the mountains ...

Setting off from Wendover towards Salt Lake City we could see that the Bonneville Salt Flats were on our left some distance from the road. Expecting to have a considerable detour before our journey south to Monument Valley we set off early.

With world land speed records attempted there we thought it would have to be at least half ...

... Utah, most Interstates you can drive 75, and sometimes even 80mph. Back roads: 65 mostly, otherwise 55 at least. Makes the miles go by quickly! With about 2,5 hours of driving on the clock we get our first glimpse of the salt flats in sight. You cannot just drive onto any part of the flats, as there is a real possibility of getting stuck out there.
Some Internet research told us to head west first, towards Wendover UT. and then take exit 4. So, west we go. As ...

... run the Lions Gift Shop at the mine. Very friendly bunch, who were interested in Stanley and the journey, and Round Table, and gave us a lapel pin of the mine. Many thanks, ladies.
Going along next to Salt Lake, we passed a number of piles of salt, just like we get in Spain. But what happens when it rains and they get wet?
Proceeded on our way towards Bonneville. Will we be able to run Stanley on the world famous racetrack? Will he be the fastest in his class?Had no idea ...
