Weddings and Weekend Fun!

... is different because there is no dancing, it is just a big meal shared with everyone. You sit at your table and the food is served family style. There was A LOT of food. We had 14 different platters of food come out. Just when you thought they couldn't bring you anymore, you got more. With all this food there were a lot of leftovers, unlike in American where they throw all the food away. They let you take home all the extra food. One of the ...

Hot, Hot, Hot

Well I am a little behind on my blogging. I meant to write on Friday but I got a little busy and didn't get to it. This past week it has been so HOT! Which I guess is just the opposite of what it has been like in the states this weekend. Every day had a high of 34 degrees Celsius (that is 93 degrees Fahrenheit!) And we can't forget about the humidity too! My roommate said that with the humidity that last week we were around 115 degrees Fahrenheit! It is crazy! We got a little ...

Here Comes the Sun!

... normal time) and others have to teach from 2PM-6PM. Parents wanted the schedules moved around or a refund for the day! Crazy!

One last thing, I just got home from shopping and it blows my mind just how many American products you can get here. I looked into my cart and I would say that about 80% of the things in my cart were American products! Thank God for exports! They are lifesavers.

Until later.....love ya and miss ya!

Another Busy Week

... to imagine what it looks like on a Friday or Saturday night....no thank you!

After my long Wednesday I decided to stay in and relax tonight. I have no plans for this upcoming weekend. It will be the last weekend in Taichung for a few teachers that will be leaving this year so I am sure we will do some dinner or night out on the town! My other 2 roommates will be returning from the states soon also! I am excited for them to come back!

Until later....love ya and miss ya!

The Teaching Begins...

... I was the only person at the restaurant that knew how to give it so I had to give it to her. I hate needles and can barely stand getting shots and couldn't imagine giving one but I was able to give it to here. After the first stab she didn't think that I got her good enough, even though she was bleeding from the hole I just poked in her skin so she made me put the ejected needle back into her skin....YUCK! I don't know how I did it. I was shaking ...

Driver's Test

It was highly suggested during a recent monthly meeting by our school administrator, Jilda, that all new teachers take some time to visit the local department of motor vehicles and apply for our scooter license test. Jilda explained that, "It is vital for all drivers to have their scooter license because, in the event of a crash or any sort of legal problem involving the operation of a motor vehicle without a license, you are automatically ...

... me over in order to keep moving. I opened the front door of the cab to see my camera, sitting neatly as ever. I let out a huge sigh of relief and held the camera in the air as if I was Rocky standing on top of the art museum steps. The rest of the day went quite smoothly. We walked around the small villages and did a little shopping. We purchased some cold beverages and sat on the dock with our feet in the water. We hiked up a small hill and got a nice view of the ...

Ann-Szuh-Kai

... a Chinese man walking in the lobby wearing a "UW-Green Bay" polo shirt. I immediately whispered to some of my fellow Wisconsinites about his attire and we built up the courage to ask him if he knew about Green Bay. He replied, in perfect English, that of course he has heard of Green Bay because he is a professor at the University. Ends up he was going to be spending the summer teaching at a university in Taichung. What a small world!

Earthquake!(?)

... an opportunity to channel nervous energy, and because earthquakes rarely last longer than a minute, provides comfort that the event is almost over. 3) Check for injuries and provide comfort for those who are distraught. It is a rather simple drill, but after visiting the museum and getting such an alarming e-mail, I know these directions will be posted in my classroom beginning on day one.

Taiwanese Birthday

... When the staff asked what restaurant I was interested in going to for my birthday, I could only think of one place... The Modern Toilet. The Modern Toilet is a restaurant that has, well, a particular theme to it (can you guess what it is?). It is the most hilarious place you will ever see. The sign in the front has the words "Modern Toilet" written in Chinese, with a huge toilet hanging next to it. Guests are escorted to their tables (which consist ...
