Cademario Lugano, Ticino, Swiss Alps, Switzerland, 6936, 41-91-610-51-11
Last weekend I went with JF to meet some of his friends in Lucarno for a Lenny Kravitz concert. While it is faster to cut through France and Italy from Geneva, we drove via the Swiss route so that I could see some of the Swiss countryside -- largely through the Cantons of Vaud and Valais. Ticino is also a Swiss Canton that is completely Italian speaking. They seem to get lots of German and Swiss-German visitors so getting by on English is a bit tough--the signs are usually in Italian and Germ...

Friday caught the train out to Como for a day trip.
Wandering around Como is really nice and can imagine it would be awesome in Summer, as well as being incredibly busy and crowded.
Caught the funiculare up to Brunate and walked up the ...
When I finally found Lake Como (after a train, then a bus, then a ferry and then a very confusing walk) I was surprised that it was so empty. It was raining (I think the rain is following me around Europe) and there was no one about so I was able to do my exploring easily. Lake Como is a very small place with not too many things to ...
Como, Lombardy, Italy misswillis... kind of deep fried meat and french fries. Awesomely American. The boys went off after lunch so the girls and Meghan and I played cards. I had grapes that had to be for wine, they had such a deep taste and stained my fingers purple and the grandma brought us cookies and dark chocolate. We went back home and Meghan and I took their dog, an incrediby fat yellow lab, for a walk. It was another gorgeous fall day, we walked through vineyards, a forest with vegetation ...
Borgomanero, Piedmont, Italy alliemarieCiao Bello,
We have finally hit a day of rain...so we thought we should stop off at the nearest internet site to say hello. We have visited a few of our neighboring communities in the last few days. Varenna, which claims to be the diamond of the lake, while Bellagio is only the pearl of the lake. No George Clooney sightings. Varenna is a cute and quiet town with steep hillsides and walkways. Bellagio is also ...
... The balcony where Romeo and Juliet declare their love is a magnet to tourists and they allow people to write and pin love notes to the wall which are cleared every three months so the process can start again.
The relevance of Como for me ended up being from my childhood when Dad subscribed to a weekly series called the History of World War 2. I couldn't wait for each series to arrive and I remember one story of how ...
My friend had the fabulous idea of going to Lugano this weekend and I am not one to turn down great ideas. I still had my Canadian friend staying with me as well and he was ready to move on, but I convinced him to wait until he sees Lugano before he moves on to the next country on his list.
So we made a three-day weekend out of it and had a fabulous time. Lugano is so beautiful! The winding streets, steep hills, charming shopping ...
... no stamp. On the Italian side, the guy had to find the stamp, blow the dust off it and then set it to today's date. And then stamp it. And what a boring stamp it was! But since we only went into Italian speaking Switzerland, it didn't really seem like such a jaunt. But, it's another stamp in the passport.
Lugano, Swiss Alps, Switzerland mr_grumpy... only they had such entertaining ads: We boarded our train to Luzern and settled down with our books, periodically peeking out the windows at the beautiful countryside. As we approached Luzern, we noticed that all the signs had changed from French to German on the billboards. Similarly, the train station was completely German, with pretzels replacing baguettes at the food vendors' booths. We split a pretzel ...
Lugano, Switzerland kqb... Ferrari factory tour was incredible enough. But, remarkably, it had just got even better. The Brazilian Grand Prix, the last Formula One race of the season, was about to start. And we were in the spiritual heartland of the prancing horse to watch Michael Schumacher race for Ferrari for the very last time before retiring – with a chance at winning an eighth World Driver’s Championship and earning Ferrari the year’s Constructor’s Championship. Hoges and I ...
