... to steam down the Humber and finally get out to sea.

The ferry was the 'Pride of Hull' and takes vehicles as well as 1360 passengers. It is promoted as a mini cruise, and some people catch it from Hull, spend the day in Amsterdam, then catch it the next night. It isn't glamorous, but has bars, restaurants and a casino. Terry was concerned we had too much Sterling left, so I went to the Duty Free shop and used some of it.

... and patented the Economiser machine that saved coal fired steam run factories money on energy coasts. Frank left the house and all the contents (a huge collection) to the National Trust - we spent a long time wandering the rooms and garden. To top off the day we walked through the Museum gardens and along the river in the glorious sunshine, then back through the winding streets of The Shambles area. Two nights was not long enough - we leave for the Lake District ...

Left Edinburgh this morning heading for York. Stopped at Alnwick to visit the castle the Harry Potter scenes were shot at for their quid ditch matches. On to York and went for a walking tour through e town then went for dinner. Had ...

... historical houses. There was a craft market in the stable courtyard, so it was very busy. Again we were a bit early for the roses, but there were some out in the walled garden. It is hard to imagine such a huge house and the extensive grounds being in the hands of one family, and for over 300 years. Some of the family still lives there, but a least it is open to the public, and about 250,000 people visit it each year. It is all stunningly beautiful.
