... stagnant water/mud... There was a heated pool to the side and people were 'quite literally' being hosed down before they were allowed to get in (various pool attendants took turns at holding the hose!!)...
When I returned the boat, we had been joined by an organised tour and a lunch of chicken curry (that famous Turkish cuisine!!) was served, whilst we sailed around we passed a couple of ...

Ruined by Tourism

... present things to make the "standard tourist's" life easier. Menus are filled with the staple "tourist" foods (pizza, pasta, hamburgers and English Breakfasts), usually with bad pictures. All the bars gain a feel that could be lifted from a bad parody of Las Vegas, whilst drink prices drop to a level that ensures the drunken patrons destroy anything that would have added to the ambience of the town. Touts start to line every corner to hawk an ...

... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.

... go on a night cruise. The night cruise is supposed to be very fun. The Fez website and brocuhure are full of picturews of smiley, muddy Fez Travelers.

Of course, you probably know where this is going... We only had 7 on our bus, 8 including Hayden. For the hostel we were staying at, which runs the tour out to the mudbaths, to take a boat out, you needed a minimum of 8 people... The older travelers weren't about to go mud bathing...and Phoenix and Jess weren ...

SAILING TO BODRUM (ALIKARNASOS)

... around the city which lasts for an hour.
Because there were no other Greeks on the cruise today, we have a Greek speaking tour guide just for the two of us. The rest of the group are Germans and there is another tour guide who explains everything in German.

We are given the two seats just next to the driver infront, our guide is standing just behind us, and the rest of the group are sitting behind us with their leader speaking in German ...

Death in the Morning, Death in the Afternoon

... of all those who went to create these relics. It is the thought about their dedication to beliefs. So much done in dedication to gods that we no longer acknowledge. Yet their acts were inspired by the same type of illogical beliefs that motivates religious believers of today. I find it absurd that people can believe they have a personal communication with the organizing principle of the universe. (But even for me, in certain acts of creation I ...

A Hike Above Kas on May 13

... line above Kas.

The initial scenery was quite fine, looking back down to the sea and goat herds in the valley. But the landscape was brutal. I was climbing and walking in weathered limestone and thorn bushes. Cross country, no trail.

This exposed weathered limestone is a wicked substance. You dare not fall or trip. To do so would be to puncture or tear your flesh to shreds. In fact, I had the notion that the myth of Marsayas had arisen from the fact of someone falling ...

In Dalyan

Well, we finally have some free time to provide some updates. I'm hoping I can make these a bit faster as I know the layout of a Turkish keyboard now. Starting off with a laptop update - still no workey in Turkey. My initial suspicion of the dirty power supply was not correct. My next guess is the laptop AC adaptor says ýt requires 125V/7A whereas our adaptor will only provide up to 120V (make sense Ed?). As for what we have been ...

On Sunday the 26th my Ankara host fell and broke her right leg and sprained the ankle of the other foot. (And, that's a whole another story). How could I leave in the circumstance?

In Turkey, even when one is in a hospital, family take on a major burden of patient care. My host's Ankara residing family (two sisters and their families) all are employed. But, for the times that family and neighbors and friends could not attend, I was ...
