... re on the Tube, sometimes announcements are made. On this *special* Saturday, it was announced that Green Park, where we both needed connections, was temporarily closed due to a fire warning and no stops would be made. That put a temporarily glitch in my plans, but we were at a stop that was familiar to me and I wanted to get off - the next one I didn't know as well. The doors were about to close, and I told my friend ...

Finally we got home.
Sunday 17th June, Day 149, 3 days until Glastonburry
Got up some time in the afternoon, looked at the junk we had to move from Clapham to Crouch End, said “**** it, let’s catch a taxi”. We phoned up a taxi company and they told us it would cost $120, we promptly went back to our original idea of catching public transport.
It was hell, but we got half the stuff moved.

... wife didn't object to the sarcophagus in the basement or...also on the lower level..the Gothic Monk's Parlour and yard Sloane recreated to illustrate the "atmospheric effects of light and space" (from the museum's brochure). Like most other London museums, this one is free, and a great way to while away a few hours on a rainy day.
One London site that isn't free is the famous Tower of London, a place I'd avoided in the past ...
... our bags. tubed it down to westminister and walked around to see some of the local sites. took in some bangers and mash and washed it down with a pint of ale, and then headed back to heathrow - just in time too thanks to a super slow district train. g'bye blighty!
London, England, United Kingdom domhnallThere are many reasons England is at the top of the list for U.S. study abroad students. More Americans study in England than any other country in the world. For one reason, they speak English! It's such an easy transition to make when you take living and communicating in a foreign language out of the stress of going abroad. Also, we, as Americans, are intimately familiar with the history and culture of the country ...
London, England, United Kingdom hayestmJumped onto the train to London yesterday, appropriately listening to the Clash on my Ipod. As much as I love staying with Mazza and Steve in Cuffley, I started getting very excited as the train approached Covent Garden station. I came out in the drizzling rain and was immediately asked by three different people for directions - so I'm obviously fitting in and looking like a local. Wandered about a bit drinking a pathetically **** coffee (shocking ...
London, United Kingdom jojomo... tour we had to catch a bus then another bus and we spent at least an hour waiting for each bus. All in all the tour was somewhat informative and way to long, we where on it from 2-6:30. I then went out for dinner with some other people my academic program. After that it was out to the pub with some UNH girls, we had a lot of fun and there was dancing. Today I went shopping on Oxford ...
London, United Kingdom dianeinlondon... as permanent PA work is not for me. I find it unchallenging and the hours can be long. I'm now thinking about finding a job where I can help people who genuinely need it, in an ethical and unbias fashion. I reckon it will be low paid! Those sorts of jobs tend to be in high demand, don't they? I'm gonna be updating my blog over the next few weeks to make it sharper and a more interesting read. Bye for now, I hope you are well wherever in the world you are. Emma
London, United Kingdom emmaireland... of lines were closed for maintenance). We sat in the upper patio, off the back, as the rest of the pub was full. When I'd been here before it was mighty hot and it wasn't air conditioned. So all I remember was being hot. Today, it was much cooler as we sat on the patio, talking about our last two weeks. With our days coming to an end, we took a moment to reflect. Time to catch the train back ...
London, United Kingdom englishmatt... are close, I'd highly recommend using them. If not, I'd look for another option for getting into London from Heathrow.
We got to Paddington right on schedule. After a quick taxi ride, we arrived at our hotel, the Garden Court Hotel in Bayswater. I'd read that Bayswater was a slightly seedy part of London, particularly west of Queensway. I didn't think it was any worse than Pimlico, however, it is a little lower on the scale than Bloomsbury. The Garden ...
