Oh the cities I´ve seen...

... full one the first time!) and got super-fun-Dani-drunk on some Oktoberfest brew - AMAZING beer. Seriously... puts any beer I drink in the States to shame! We had such a great time and enjoyed a ¨Tradtional Bavarian Summer¨ activity (hahaha, Seb!)

On Sunday, I got to experience my very first Bavarian breakfast, complete with pretzels (I think I ate like, 20 of those in my week in Germany), beer (!) and sausage! And shock of the century as ...

Maar twas wel gezellig, ik ging aan Miia's Finse nicht, die dr kwam ophalen in Wenen (??) laten zien hoe goed ik Zweeds van ...

... into the subway car and proceeded to collapse on one of the benches to the shock of the aforementioned drunk Americans. I then proceeded to explain that, no, these people were not really drunk, they were on drugs. Lots and lots of ground-up, blue-pilled drugs. That night I slept well. *Note: I'll be adding more info on my travels over the next few days. Right now I'm just getting my pictures in order, so stay tuned...

To Vienna!

... they can take any flammable solid and produce a flammable gas, that then burns pretty cleanly (e.g., your city doesn't smell like coal fires/wood smoke/gas because all the molecules are totally combusted). The gas output from this gasifier (which must have been enormous), was stored in bladders, inside these four very tall buildings, called, collectively, the gasometer, because you could see the bladder rising and falling inside, through the building windows ...

Vienna- In the Homeland

... when I'm done writing this entry. The little bit of German I remember from high school is coming in handy; not as many people speak English here as I expected. I'm remembering words I thought I'd forgotten. I am usually too scared to try to use them around real German speakers, because they'll probably laugh. I feel like if I really got motivated, I might be able to really learn this language ...

Americans go to see an Italian Opera in German

... flea market on Saturdays. People bring out their finest junk and spread it out on a table for others to examine. Miriam (roommate) found a pendant for a necklace that she wanted and the salesman asked for 3 Euros for it. Rachel (other roommate) immediately decided that 3 Euros was too much and immediately bartered it, in her broken German, down to 2 Euros. Bartering in a different language is definitely an experience! After 2 hours of more junk and some ...

... I retraced my tracks as far as I could remember however, in any case, I'd got lost so that wasn't too far . . . Then I was thinking that the € 15 will be claimable on my travel insurance so I'll claim it . . . Tonight was a picnic in the Prater - a ten square kilometre public space park in the centre of Vienna - six times larger than the CBD of Vienna - how excellent - and I've posted more video on myspace including video of our picnic last night . . .

Vienna - music halls

... interior decor that creates a retro, relaxed and very pleasant ambience. (I am never a fan of those giantic concert halls with massive staircases and extravagant chandeliers.) And of course I won't deny that the gorgerous host/violinist of that show was a huge plus for the place and I fell in love with Brahms's Hungarian Dance which he rendered so touchingly. Now comes to the least enjoyable part of my trip -- the ...

Twilight in Vienna

Jumped onto the train at Budapest station and declared (somewhat pointlessly) "Is this the train to Vienna?", a Californian bloke called Nolan confirmed that it was. (My suspicions that it was the train to Vienna were first aroused by the fact the destination board said "Wien"). Anyway, we got talking and had a few beers on the way to Vienna- the Hungarians and Austrians stamped his passport, but not mine- those ...
