    Ferry to Varena( nice little town but closed up for winter). Coffee at bar with tarted up barmaid looked like she was straight out of western suburbs pub. Train direct to Milan via Lecco. Cab to hotel to deposit excess luggage - a great move in hindsight given the walk in at Venice and steps at hotel. Train to Venice was 2.5 hrs and uneventful.     We're in Italy! Unfortunately, it's just for a night. A stopover before we head out for Linthal, Switzerland tomorrow. But we made it to Duomo (amazing), and the Sforzesco Castle.
