... by the town center several times and to the bank of the river and couldn't get close to our hotel or find a parking place so we grabbed our backpacks and hoofed the kilometer to Rhinehotel Lillie. The man at the hotel desk told us 'all is fair in parking and war' on the Rhine. No kidding. The trade off to the crowds? Great selection of restaurants, lots to walk around and see and a beautiful view ...

After Trier, we had an easy time riding the train...then a boat down the the Mosel, then down the Rhine to Bacharach. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking, but we are still very relaxed, entertained, and loving the food and weather.

Judging from the pictures of the wildlife, we felt it was better that we NOT know what they were describing.

    ... my bathers.

Bacharach is very attractively situated town beside the river and nestled amongst the vine covered hills, with a castle and the ruins of a Gothic Chapel on one side and one of the 16 watchtowers on the other. We walked up between the vines to one of these watchtowers just behind the town and had a lovely view over the town, up the valley behind the town and back down the river. It is indeed a picturesque town that looked as if it was straight ...
