Back in the car and of to Koblenz where the Rhine meets the Moselle. This was our stop for the night and what a pretty village this was. We wandered around taking in the sights and stopping for dinner overlooking the Rhine section of the river. This is what holidays are all about.

Victor Hugo wrote about the skeleton of a church left up on Bacharach’s hillside, which stands alone like a ghost above the town. We made our way up to the church for a postcard view of the town, the Rhine and some photos. After all that climbing, it was time for lunch.

Bacharach is very attractively situated town beside the river and nestled amongst the vine covered hills, with a castle and the ruins of a Gothic Chapel on one side and one of the 16 watchtowers on the other. We walked up between the vines to one of these watchtowers just behind the town and had a lovely view over the town, up the valley behind the town and back down the river.
