... On Fri I didn't have to be at school until the evening, so we went in and had a look round the Chen Clan Academy which really impressed me on my first visit. There was a man doing traditional style painting on special paper, and he was keen for us to have a go, using all his English words to tell us so! He was very friendly, and when we declined his offer he gave us some of the special paper anyway.

As you may expect, days like Mother's Day and birthdays can be a bit tough when you are 5000 km away from the people you love, and 1 of the local teachers in particular realised this and invited me out to dinner with her and 2 of the other local staff.

The 3 of them all live in the area known as university city - it is on its own island, and has several (I think they said 10) universities located there. It is considered to be THE place to go to uni in the province and was finished ...

At that point, I figured I had should probably change roles with them otherwise my boss might see there was no need for me to be there! Next time I want leave, I might suggest that the girls take the class. And man, they were great on discipline - we have monkey that climbs a tree when they are good, and they managed that perfectly too!

It's Monday morning and we have now had a full-scale storm going for 24 hrs - lightning, thunder, rain, the works!

For the last 3 nights I have been woken in the night by thunder that sounds like its just overhead, and usually the thunder stops after a few minutes while the lightning keeps going. This morning, there was a huge clap of thunder just before 7 am, and its still rattling around the place.
