Over the weekend we visited the city of Alanya which is about 30 mins north west of gazipasa. It was absolutely not at all what I was expecting. There were camels in the ruins next to the beach and we found an iguana crossing the road. Jase being the Good Samaritan that he is stepped in front of a bus that was coming towards the beautiful reptile and made sure it got to the other side unharmed. ...

We were unable to see the Aspendos Theatre as it has been closed for renovations, but we did see the reconstructed bridge and the aquaduct. In the 1930's Atatürk, after tourıng the area, declared that theatre was too beautiful not to use and had renovations done and it now is the home of live performances. Turkish workmen don't seem to start too early in the morning which is a blessing.
Good old Vera. We have a bath with a shower over it and the usual wet clingy curtain. But for me, a bath is the way to go. Lashings of hot water and a plug which knows it should be watertight and really does try hard to do the job.

... renting a Turkish car is the best way to go ( although not a fiat I hear). One just has to be brave...and start out somewhere outside of Istanbul...and probably NEVER even attempt to drive within its boundaries...simply out-of-control! Anyway, Konya...I have picked up a couple of books that will help me understand more about who Rumi really was. I picked up a few silly souvenirs as well...and some Sufi music...we went to the Mevlani Museum ...
