... standing next to me and they were curious about me not wearing shoes. That started up a nice conversation about where i was from and what they were doing here. One of the guys introduced himself and i don't know his japanese name anymore but he said it meant 'small mountain' in english. After a while our buses came and we said goodbye. The bus took me to the station and two trains and 2 hours later i was in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Inbetween the busy days in Tokyo i had planned 2 days of hiking in a national park. In my preparation i checked a couple but they were either too far away or the hike would just take too long. Until i found a Oze national park, just 3,5 hours from Tokyo and relatively easy to do in two days. The first day you'll walk mainly through marshlands and the second day takes you around the lake in the park.

... area. Much time spent with the monkeys, they are very comfortable with tourists. One alpha male who tends to get angry if you upset him by getting too close. Beautiful spring melt snow all around and the walk back is beautiful. Back near hotel many black suited guys with earpieces and police everywhere.
Back to the hotel to be shown Japanese room ......we did not book this so anxious staff hurried us out of the way. We later found out that the Japanese Prince was at hotel from ...

... One of the highlights was that it contained an inner chamber which we had to walk down to via a narrow staircase, which lead to a completely pitch black corridor. You had to use your right hand to feel along the wall and find your way. Near the end you touch a metal key hanging on the wall to give you enlightment. When we left we definitely felt something although we weren't sure what it was!

... Furthermore, there were still plenty more scenic vistas to gaze upon as I rode higher up. Soon though, the fog started to roll back in and visibility dropped again. The cycling gods were teasing me, I guess, but I had seen enough to rate this climb at the top of my list.
