Beer fest!

Today we were unable to go to the lavender fields like we had planned, so we improvised. Sapporro being the beer capital of Japan, we headed to the beer museum. Fascinating though it was, we were still below Japan's drinking age and therefore felt a little left out of the festivities. The beer museum was adjacent to a crazy huge shopping mall and we needed some lunch, so we decided to head in. We grabbed some ...

... time, we went back to the hotel for showers and changes of clothes. A friend of the Yamanka's travel agent came by and treated us to a night on the town. He was the owner of a mexican restaurant in Sapporro (who knew?) and took us there to eat. After that we went wayyyy out into the boondocks to a public bath. Though we had been to several traditional hot baths, this was the first public bath we ...

Then, this just reminded me of the Issey Miyake's article on the New York Times.

I've never been to Hiroshima yet.
It's not to blame someone now. It's a history, but there are many histories that shouldn't be forgotten... not only these nuclear bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki ...

... of diversity. He gave me his booklet of his works (sculpture). His work seems very strong, but at the same time I felt like I could see something gentle and calm in his work. Most of the Ainu people I met are like that... they are very passionate and dedicated, but at the same time, they are very calm and relaxed. Somehow, Hawaiians are like them. I also visited the town called Nibutani in Hidaka region. This current movement of Ainu culture renaissance really ...

Sapporo: Clock Tower and then what?

... the Nijo fish market which was basically dead (haha, puns!) in the afternoon. I think though Sapporo is nicely laid out wiht broad avenues and a grid pattern, it's a party city that you'd need to get a hostel for a few days, meet some new people and go out to party as a group. For a day tripping tourist, nothing much I think. So I made it an early day and headed to Asahikawa to rest up for some hiking tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will agree. Tomorrow: Daisetsuzan -mike

... took a street car to the base of the mountain and then walked uphill for what seemed like miles to get to the tramway entrance. We rode the tram up and took a slight hike up to the observation deck -- what a view! Sapporo is laid out on a large and very flat plain at the base of this mountain. You can see for miles and the lights of the city went off in all directions. This is very similar to going ...

... refuse maid service, they will pay you 1000 Yen ($10) a day. So 3 full days, gave us 2000 Yen in our pocket!! (The catch: It's a voucher that you can only use at the hotel, and a maid MUST come do service every third day) So I had a Jack and Ginger on behalf of the hotel and my own personal filth. (Plus some extra cash, because a drink and the view cost me $25!!! Still worth it for the principle alone.) All I can say is that Sapporo rocks... It Rocks hard!
