Actun Tunich Muknal!

... moments, however, when the silence was broken by the sounds of the bats flying around us or by the water of this underground river rushing past us. At times we had a very hard time squeezing through very small and tight areas and then at others the caverns would open up and become so enormous that we felt like we were miniscule. We were awed while exploring the caves and seeing beautiful naturally formed stalactites and stalagmites, some of them glittering, some looking ...

EARTHQUAKE!!!

... were a few deaths and a few houses had collapsed, but other than that Belize was very lucky.

At about 9 am, we tuned to local Belize City TV station which confirmed the info we had already heard. A second earthquake hit about an hour after the first, this one a 4.6 on the Richter scale, total of 6 deaths, about 50 injured, most areas damaged were near the coast.

It had been the biggest earthquake Belize has ever seen, hopefully it will be the last one for awhile!
Goodbye Guatemala, Hello Belize

... to do this.

Everything was bright pink, blues and yellows. Even the sky felt different. The countryside was incredibly lush, houses were made mostly of cement, cheerfully painted. Not so many people and not so many stray animals were about the roads. We pulled into the back of what seemed like a parking lot that served as the Benque Viejo del Carmen bus terminal. Wouldn´t you know it, school buses again! The ticket seller motioned for us to get on, Reggae ...

a full on day at the Actun Tunichil Muknal caves

... our journey.

Putting on our sneakers we walked through the jungle for about 45mins before getting to the entrance to the cave. Along the way we had to wade through 3 river crossings which was refreshing. We saw some rubber trees and loads of termite mounds - I did eat some and no - they didn't taste like chicken but like carrots.. .strange! We didn't see much wildlife other than that but the walk was good - our final river crossing was fun - we ended ...

Bus to Belize

I could have taken a shuttle to San Ignacio, and my shuttle driver to Tikal was really pushing this...but it cost $35. The bus to the border cost $3 and from there I took a taxi for $5. No contest. Santa Elena has a new bus station on the edge of town, about a 10 minute walk from my hotel. I found the bus I needed and after a few minutes we were on ...

... them they were waiting on tribal leaders of this village to get back to them about their proposal, becuase its likel y to be an unprecedented sorta thing and they need to get permission to do so. On our second day in San Ignacio we decided we would try and go kayaking on a nearby river that upstream held a nature trail which featured information on various traditional healing plants and natural remedies. We were warned that because it was wet season the current was stronger and the river ...

... but what about knowing their eternal destination and keeping it to yourself. What about the soccer mom or corprate exectuitive. Why doesnt our heart brek for them.We are quick to tell the gospel to the needy in different countries or on indian reservations but what about at the gym? The homless man is only the true image behind the suit , lost , hopless and broken. God called me first to wake up , then get up. Yet i often run back and sleep for 5 more min ...

I WILL STAND FOR CHRIST!

The Line stretches long, people of many nations , cultures , backgrounds and lifestyles represented from the begging to the end. The hands of the clock seem to have been put on slow motion yet the wait continues. All existing within a bubble within a larger bubble and the domino effect continues . However the strand that is holding them together in this instance, what seeming surreal force could hold the young and old , weak ...

... the 45 acre garden and it was very interesting indeed. They provided a booklet that gave information on around 70% of the plants, the rest were named but did not have so much information. Never the less it was a fascinating visit, indeed it would be good at any time of the year as there are always different plants and trees in season. 28th.- Today we are mainly in the camp doing washing and cleaning out the termites ready to go into Guatemala tomorrow.
