Once again great location, all be it over looks the Christchurch Cathedral that was badly damaged when the 2011 Earthquake hit. Check In was very efficient, hotel was well presented, rooms well furnished and clean. We ate in the restaurant on an early dinner deal the first night. Stacey who served us and guided our choice was absolutely first class. We watched her whilst dinning and she worked so hard to ensure everyone received 1st class service and great advice, the meals, the hotel and the City. Also must mention she was ably assisted by Paul when it came to making us welcome

Positioned in middle of Christchurchb- standing alone in Cathedral Square ( as the Cathedral is a victim of the 2011 quake) - and vacant blocks on all sides due to buildings being demolished. Walking distance to most activities. Room was excellent, staff courteous and helpful. The restaurant menu was adequate - good value.

Friday 4th March. Up at 0500 for the flight to Christchurch. Got to the car with the luggage and guess what, flat tyre, so Bob spent the first 30 minutes of the day changing the tyre. That put us 30 mins behind schedule , so by the time we got to Brisbane Airport, checked in, through security and to the gate the flight was boarding. With a 3 hour …

Christchurch was established on swamp land on the Avon River around 1840. The water table is only 1 metre below the surface. So - when a quake hits - as it did in Feb 2011 with the epicentre right in the city - it wasn't just the devastating damage which occurred - but the continual seepage of silt went on for months. The River Avon raised around a …

... we're staying to make us feel at home, although the hotel is very good.

When anyone mentions the name Christchurch, the word 'earthquake' or even 'earthquakes' inevitably springs to mind, and it is undeniable that the centre looks a lot like a bomb site. It's a bit sad, really, but they are making great efforts to rejuvenate the city. The cardboard cathedral, and yes, they do call it that, is a particularly good example of this, ...

Had another early start today but it wasn't too hard getting up, walked to the bus stop and met a lovely girl called Beth from Suffolk and it was her first day on the bus too and her first time travelling alone so as if by magic we became friends! The bus journey wasn't too long luckily and when we arrived in Kaikoura we went to the point where you could see over the ...
