Philip Island

... No more sitting on the toilet floor in the national park :) We just had dinner at the RSL which was excellent and so far the locals have been the friendliest we have met yet. Tomorrow we will check out the beaches, the race track do some fishing and then off to see the fairy penguins :)

Walking the National Park

... uphill climb, which is noticeably constant" Subtle uphill climb??!! Moderate to hard??!! Noticeably constant??!! It was a MASSIVE hill that was freakin hard and not at all subtle. Well thats my opinion, John thinks they got it right and it wasnt that bad - i was puffing like i was going to die and John could would have struggled to blow out some birthday candles!! But after a few stops (for me) Johns ...

Am südlichsten Zipfel des Kontinents

Mixed Feelings

This update is sent with mixed feelings, as I am sure most of you know the bush fires here in Victoria are devastating. So many lives and homes have been lost - our thoughts and prayers go out to many people at this time. Wayne and I were in Wilson's Prom (the southern tip of Victoria) on Saturday when the fires started. It was too hot, too windy and too risky to do any walking in the area so we ...

Wilsons Promontory

... only settlement/camping in the park) admiring the vegetation we also caught glimpses of the wildlife. The further we went into the prom the more we saw and beyond the white and yellow cocatoes that you can see around most of Australia we also started seeing shying, rarer creatures starting off with Wallabies (look like small kangaroes). We came across a few but as the car approached they dived off into the bush. Then we saw a Wombat, a strange shy creature that you hardly ever come ...

Melbourne and Phillip Island - Day 241

After packing my stuff and leaving the comfort of my friends place in St Kilda I hit the road once again and headed for Phillip Island. The island lies just south-east of Melbourne and is connected to the mainland by a road bridge stretching across a narrow channel. Spent all afternoon watching the car racing at the famous GP circuit where the Moto GP was held only a couple of weeks ago. I drove past the circuit's main gate and saw the ...

Wilsons Promontory National Park

Wilsons Promontory National Park 11/12th September Apparently today could have been the end of the World. Some scientists well underground in Europe were attemtping to recreate the Big Bang. I'll be honest, the farming town of Leongatha felt like the end of the world. Thankfully it was a brief stop off on our way down to Wilsons Promontory National Park. Occupying the very southern most point of mainland Australia, the park is heaven for ...

Penguins ...

... town just before you cross the bridge to Philip Island, called San Reno. We stopped off at a little bakery and had a look around the little shops. Over the bridge we went (its actually not that far, would have thought the bridge was a lot longer...duno why) Stop 1 -The information centre to pick up some postcards and tickets to see the penguin's $20. Stop 2 -The Chocolate Factory, which had a big sign "free samples" which ...

The Penguin Parade!

... this time I took advice my my friend on which team to go for, and they won! It was a really good game. Surprisingly simple to catch on to. Highly recommended! my mobile also survived a trip in the washing machine... i was able to rescue it in time, dry it out, and save myself from another mobile mishap, from which i have been plagued. Now I'm off to try and do something else "exciting".. perhaps an art gallery. But coffee first!! X
