... a meal which is very refreshing. Stale food is very popular in China and I know what you are thinking as I have had that same thought many a time, whilst walking in the streets you may be greeted with the most unpleasant smell of stinky tofu which is very popular in China. Living in a small town it took some time getting used to the constant staring or the not so subtle whispering of “lowaai” which translated means foreigner . The constant bombarding of people asking to ...

... street that is a big tourist attraction for both locals and foreigners.

There were all kinds of shops that were a little overpriced but had almost everything you could want to buy as gifts in China. Well after being in country nearly two months we got a real break. The Chinese have a big old vacation for their National Day celebration. I'm ashamed to say I don't know if it actually marks some special event, or if it is just a random day selected by the Party to celebrate all things Chinese. Whatever the significance every one goes nuts traveling.

Despite the large amount of people buying cars these days, Chinese still don't seem to do road trips ...

When one thinks of China, there are many traditional things that the country is known for that immediately jump to mind. Things like the color red, qipao (旗袍: traditional silk dresses), and tea. So far on our trip we have seen an abundance of the color red (the Chinese symbol for happiness), and drank enough tea to last me a lifetime! When you go out to eat, especially to the nicer restaurants, tea is to the Chinese meal and ...

If there is one thing that I carried over from the last time that I lived in China, it's that you can't always expect what you are told to actually be the reality of things. For example, before we left I was assured that there would be wireless Internet available at the university, but it turned out that their version of wireless was through an Ethernet cable that wasn't compatible with my laptop. That was the first straw that started to ...
