Travel Blogs by Travelers Who Stayed at the Walters B&B Interlaken

On top of the World

We arrived at Interlaken on Tuesday afternoon. On the way we stopped at a little rest stop by Thunersee to sit by the lake, have lunch and soak up the atmosphere. The water is aqua blue and with a few yachts in the distance, the odd duck paddling past, a pair of dragonflies dancing around each other it was a pleasant way to pass the time.
Walter's B&B come hostel has been a great place to stay. We were able to cook our own dinner for the first time..not that we went to too much trouble...

Quiet time, friendly cats and getting lost.

... I was using didn’t add the detergent automatically like the others and I needed to do it myself, so the one hour cycle had to run without detergent. But then the cycle wouldn’t stop spinning! Once I fixed that problem – with the reception girl’s help - the cycle wouldn’t start! *sigh* I put the washing in at about 6pm and didn’t pull it out of the dryer until 11pm!

About this time I was getting hungry so I decided to go for a walk to get ...

Weve got romance coming out the yingyang

... day, but we still got some good pictures. We went out for breakfast (apple pie because we thought we deserved it for getting up in time) and went back to bed. We planned on staying one night but extended it to two. We tried to stay three but the hotel was booked. We thought we were out of luck until we arrived in our next destination. Interlaken is twice as nice with half the people. The town is at the base of three huge mountains with paragliders, glaciers, and two ...

Interlaken

... learning curve than Justin. As soon as we were on the scotters, he was off while I lagged behind screaming every time the pavement turned into gravel. I found them terribly awkward, like going through puberty. I got the hang of it eventually and then it was very enjoyable. (well, i don't know if i necessarily got a hang of it or if it was just because the road was paved and much flatter)

It's also a bit weird being here after coming from ...

fly like an eagle

... with a post-flying high and a great set of pictures to aid my story. After arriving to our hostel, everyone then proceeded to walk to town. Kelli, Tiffany, Keith, Emily, and I went to an Italian restaurant where we consumed a delicious ham, cheese, and oregano pizza. It was probably the cheapest meal I have had in Switzerland. Then we went to the delicious chocolate store again, and I got a truffle cake. Oh dear me, it was heaven in cake form. Then it was off to sleep for me.

Daniel and Evelyn in Bern

... was quite fast and you couldn't touch the bottom. We traveled about 3 kilometers, but others went in further upstream and finished further down than we. If we had kept going we would have ended up in the Rhine. Evelyn kindly stayed with our clothes and we walked back to her parallel with the river, with all the other drifters. Daniel said people put their working clothes into waterproof containers and float downstream towards their homes ...

Zurich

... were very simple, despite their size. Last night I ate at Hilt, the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Zurich. One of the Swiss specialities is rosti, which in essence is just fancy expensive hash browns. Loving hash browns, I thought it was delicious. Today I went to Sprungli, the most decadent chocolate shop ever. I'll be taking people back tonight, and tomorrow... Thinking of you all, and wishing that everyone could be here with me. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Bern

... a second quite well, not too mention a fair amount of English, especially in the more commercial cities like Geneva and Zurich. With only 130,000 people this was the prettiest of the Swiss cities we saw. The central Munster cathedral was impressive, even for those now getting thoroughly churched out. With our three hours parking up we returned to the van and, to the usual stares, backed out. We drove to Interlaken for the night ...

I don't even know where to start i guess ...

... think since I wasn't worried about when to check my altimeter, pull the ripcord, or anything else, I was able to enjoy the event that much more, live in the moment, and fully absorb the awesome rush of adrenaline. The appropriate Simpsons reference would be Homer accidentally jumping Springfield Gorge on Bart's skateboard. "Oh, my God. I'm gonna make it! This is the greatest thrill of my life! I'm king of the world! WOOHOO! WOOHOO!" Funny how when I woke up this morning, I had no ...
