... tour of Fussen was spot-on and left us wanting to walk and learn more about this little slice of Bavaria. We spent about 45 minutes touring the city and learned about the village's history and culture along the way. Starting at the TI, we first viewed the Hotel Hirsh and it's restored Art Nouveau paintings and decor. We were also able to view one of the village's Medieval Towers and portion of the fortification wall circa early 1500's. We then passed into the cemetery ...

... Very crowded but very worth it!

We decided to take the bus back down to the village, and OMG, what a ride! We had a Czech driver that thought he was a Formula 1 race car driver! Ainsley and I dubbed it the Fussen rollercoaster!! What a ride!

We headed back to our campground at the super luxurious Camping Hopfensee (pool, sauna, spa, tennis courts, giant game complex, lake, boats, etc) for an evening of Uno and Yahtzee!

Frustrated, we gave up and drove to Schwangau and paid to park in one of the lots there. We arrived around 12:10, so we still had plenty of time to pick up the tickets. Boy, am I glad I reserved our tickets. You should have seen the line of people waiting to pick up their tickets ...

... the first castle were also present including a lifesize swan and an artificial cave inspired by one of Wagner's operas. Also reflecting the king's love of theater was an opera hall which he never got to use but which hosts perfornances for one week each year in September. Only one balcony was open to visitors, but its breathtaking views justified the long journey to the castle. Another hike behind the castle brought us to a bridge ...

    Day Three in Fussen

A travel blog entry by erzetic on May 19, 2015

... by Louis. The Palace was very decadent but the grounds were amazing. We spent a few hours inside the Palace and around the grounds. Our next stop wes the White church. This is a beautiful church in the middle of a field about 20 km outside Fussen. Still raining. We then headed back to Fussen and tracked down German sausage for a late lunch. We then found ourselves in the local market place to have a beer and wine. Russ & Steve stayed for a second ...
