... and bought our train tickets home. Mine was round trip but I had to get a ticket for Lincoln. Without the fine attached, it was only 5 Euros. I really wish I had known ahead of time!

I had a really nice day visiting with my brother. I haven't seen him since I left Canada back in October, so it was almost a full year. Wow, time flies! He headed back to Paris and will continue on to Barcelona in a few days so I am a bit jealous - I absolutely love Barcelona!

France and walked a winding path to the Cathedral. Unfortunately it was closed for some reason so we only got to admire the exterior. We stopped for lunch at a delicious Alsatian restaurant, Au Dauphin. Here we experience the delicious local specialty, tarte flambée. It is similar in appearance to a pizza. The crust is lighter and thinner, and there is no tomato sauce or cheese, but instead a delicious cream. For toppings, the ...
Strasbourg, Alsace, France travelingdivaWe caught the wrong train and wound up in Gengenbach. While we were waiting for a train back we met a lady who told us the town had a beautiful old-town section. So we went discovering again. After a good look around we stopped at a pub while we were waiting for the next train and got talking to the owner. Turns out he'd been to Australia on holiday, so we had a good time talking to him until it was time to go.
Gengenbach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandrozDay trip from Villingen. Wolfach has a factory cum tourist attraction where they blow the glass manually. It was good to watch them making vases etc. in the traditional way. The highlight for me was dobbing Roz in to get up on the stage and blow her own vase. She did a good job, and we bought the vase and brought it home. A very special souvenir.
Wolfach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandroz... tubs, pools and saunas teeming with Europeans of all ages, shapes and sizes united by their uncomfortably (for the viewer and likely the wearer as well) small, tight swimsuits. In the bathhouse's gift store, we encountered a coterie of Russian women who purchased a baffling 1200 Euros worth of swimwear, all undoubtedly paid for by their far off husband's credit card. Which made me chuckle at the following, not entirely ...
Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany dcarlson... Tommy said he could take a day off and was looking on-line to see where to go and found a 1SEK ticket each way. Total with taxes and everything it came to 340SEK for both of us. For those needing some conversion, $1 = 7SEK, well it did when I came in August, but now the lovely dollar has fallen to about 6.4 SEK, the lowest in history! What are you people doing over there while I am gone? :) Anyways, the round ...
Baden-Baden, Germany beth... took off; I decided I'd have to return the following weekend on my own. We got up at noon on Sunday, and Jonas' father cooked us an excellent afternoon dinner of lamb, mushrooms, rice, and veggies. Guess I'm officially back on the red meat now, to some extent. That afternoon Jonas' friend Nadia came over, and we looked at photos from Jonas' adventures in Indonesia. He got to see the Komodo dragons, which made me jealous. Nadia was a fun girl; she'd been on an internet date the ...
